One can deal with the issue without living in fear.

The fear-mongers merely want to manipulate us for political gain.
They don't impress me.

Don't get me wrong, it's something to be aware of and alert for - but afraid of?

No, never.

You're 500 times more likely to commit suicide than die from a terrorist attack in America. Just a little factoid.

For those who spend too much time on this board their risk is probably even higher.

I have my views in part because I was reared to be self reliant. I believe an even bigger reason was my civics teacher in high school. I liked what she was teaching us so much I took the 'advanced civics' class.

That self reliance and a clearly defined distinction of the role of the different branches of government as well as the place of our republican democracy in the affairs of the nation leave me as a somewhat libertarian middle of the roader.

I have always felt that the "conservatives" were most afraid of change itself...not necessarily afraid of any one thing in particular. "Liberals" seem (to me at least) to embrace new ideas or ways of living in a more favorable light.
Doesn't make either one right,,,it just the "comfort" factor.

It's fine not to live in fear but to totally ignore what's going on in other countries is folly.
