Most wealthy folks got there by getting off their butts and working very hard. Not by working hard in a dead end job. They made things happen in their lives.

About Obama's concern for the poor and middle classes. A small check isn't going to lift anyone into a higher standard of living. And there are already enough social programs.

If Democrats want to help people financially and really want to make a difference, they could redistribute wealth voluntarily, and probably more effectively than by raising taxes.
Most democrats think that it is worth paying taxes to support our society. Having a healthy, well educated, safe society that allows all of us to have a chance to live with the basic necessities of life is a benefit to all of us. Having an infrastructure that supports all of us is valued.

Perhaps they know there are hungry, homeless, uneducated, hopeless people invisible to those who are better off who do not see or do not care. Giving individually to one of them can surely help, but paying taxes that allow for programs to help benefit more people; it diminishes our sense of well being to know that our well off society (which translates to our government) closes it's eyes to people that are less fortunate.

Wealthy democrats also donate to charities, redistributing their wealth that way as well.

But whatever those differences in philosophy between democrats and republicans, the present day republicans as represented by bush/cheney/mccain/palin are of the philosophy of demonize the poor, take from the middle class, and give to the rich.

We already have social programs. Many people take advantage of them. ( Not everyone. )

A good education can be gained by anyone who wants to learn. In America's big cities the high school drop out rate approaches 50%. Most drop outs hurt their own chances for a better, productive life, and are more likely to resort to criminal activity. So much for a safer society. Throwing more tax money into social programs doesn't get to the root of the problem.

As for the basic necessities of life, I'd be willing to guess that most people on welfare have cable TV. They should be working for necessities like that.

Wealthy Democrats could easily hand over some of their money, voluntarily, to support these folks.

As for helping the middle class. Middle class people don't really need a hand out. Middle class people know they have to work and have learned how to provide themselves with the necessities of life.

As a public service, I am here to tell you: The 1950s have passed. We are now living in the year 2008. Seriously. Reading your posts is like reading a post from Pleasantville:

Why Life Is Wonderful

Those who wish to work, will. Those who do not work clearly do not want to work.

Those who do not work shall not be allowed any of life's luxuries, since it is their own fault that they do not work.

If wealthy people choose to help, they may do so.

The middle class is the best class because they are capable of learning how to work in order to earn provisions. The very opposite of those who will not work.

Therefore, thankfully, we may put the poor behind us and move on with our lives.

Thank you for your time.

Signed,
Clueless

If you Democrats want to start throwing money at social problems ... then start throwing it.

You don't have to wait for your President and your Congress to raise taxes. You could start a movement and redistribute the wealth. Voluntarily.

This is the Obama philosophy isn't it? Wealthy folks who believe in this don't need to be forced by law to redistribute wealth. What are they waiting for? The middle class needs help now. Right?
Thatis what they are saying...because if you are a wealthy movie director you don't want to come accross as not one of the people who are having to pay for your movie...Saying and doing are different things....that is why so many very wealthy people "act" like they are democrats...just to be popular....it is all about the money.

Have you seen how they reacted when they get a divorce and how hard they fight to keep the money....that is because they are democrats and losing money...they don't like to share!

They just like to "share" when they get publicity...and to give away $ 31,000 for a dinner and a concert of Streisand which they deduct from the taxes and they are there because if they don't go, the other one doesn't do something when they need it...It is like a game. meanwhile the real victims are the once who believe the wealthy dem. really mean it.

I'm not. Reduce spending. Raising taxes will slow the economy and actually reduce tax revenue.

True, Republicans have become Democrat "Lite", but I think McCain has the guts to say no to Congress's spending while Obama wants to increase it.

To the OP. Wealthy Dems like to give YOUR money to the gov't, not theirs. It makes them FEEL less guilty without actually giving anything.

Those same celebrities WOULD be paying more in taxes under Obama's plan. Yet they still support him...why?

Because they care about Americans.

When your making over 250,000 a year, its not going to hurt you to pay an extra 2-3,000 in taxes.

However if your making 22,000 a year, that 2-3,000 could be the difference between you paying rent or being evicted.

I know lots of wealthy Democrats. They're money doesn't mean more to them than the future of our country.
