Has McCain's camp come out and disputed Obama's statement that Obama initiated contact with McCain early this morning suggesting that they make a joint statement regarding the economy and the bailout plan? I've looked around and I can't find anything from McCain saying this isn't true.
Do you think McCain, after he got off the phone, felt like he needed to do something to beat Obama to the punch, because he knew that it would get out that Obama initiated the joint statement idea?
Also, Obama stated that he's been in contact with Paulson and others in Washington on a daily basis. Has anyone disputed this? Has McCain been in contact with Paulson or anyone else?
If all of these things are true, and McCain's people aren't disputing any of it, it looks more like Obama is the one who understands the gravity of the issue and is doing something about it in a measured and thoughtful way. At first I thought McCain's idea of going to Washington, and suspending the campaign, wasn't a bad one, but considering how it all transpired, and what he's done up to this point, it appears more disingenuous than I originally thought.
