If McCain wins the toss up states of New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia, and Florida; and Obama wins Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, than that would make the electoral votes tied at 269 each. Here is an article that would explain what would happen in that scenario:
And, if McCain somehow wins NH, he will win PA. They are almost always a packaged deal. He will win neither or both. I just dont see this 269 split being likely....are there any other 4 electoral states that McCain could possibly win in lieu of NH?
And this would be a good time for me to say, once again, that the EC needs to go, and failing that, if there is an electoral tie, it's decided on popular vote.
It really doesn't need to be this damn complicated.
A less likely, but still possible 269-269 split would be if
Obama wins: Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin
McCain wins: Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and Nevada
or
Obama wins: Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania
McCain wins: Nevada, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia, and New Hampshire
or
Obama wins: Nevada, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania
McCain wins: Colorado, Ohio, Virginia

The House is Democrat controlled, so it would be Obama that wins. The Senate is split with Lieberman being decider, so Palin would be VP.
McCain has to get 270...the house wont vote for him.
It's unlikely there would be a tie. The Electors can vote for whoever they want. In close states, you might see Electors flip-flopping. Don't underestimate the power of notoriety.
