some want the government to provide us with services, and that is understandable given how much money we give them. why then do we blame exxon for being greedy? does anyone know how much revenue the government takes in? has anyone researched all the perks and benefits these elected officials have? the tax revenue taken in from exxon could finance the department of education. it seems to me we should be more outraged at the government rather than corporations. record profits for big oil? hell, record profits for government. they are the real problem. at least exxon can make money. all the federal government does it take money.
my bad, I meant our outrage. not out outrage! I don't see anything patriotic about blindly giving the government trillions of dollars when they have proved the can't manage crap. if I invest in a 401k and it doesn't perform, I fire them.

The government works for us. Exxon does not. That's one big difference.
The words you are reaching for here is OVERSIGHT and REGULATION. That's how we know that we are not being cheated by the government, and that's what the GOP has been fighting forever.
Humans are a social animal. We want to live in groups. The method we use to foster the most efficient and fair cooperation is called 'government.'
It's important and vital. People who bash government just aren't thinking.
Yes, government can be done well, and it can be done poorly (a la Bush). But it has to be done, and railing against it as if it is some kind of 'enemy' is the tactic of nonthinking sociopaths.
Let's elect people who actually believe that government can be done and done well. Not people who insist that it can't be done well at all.
exxon provides a need, the government provides a want. I need fuel, but I don't need elected officials to drive $140,000 cars at tax payer expense. do you?

Self-defense is a want? Drug safety is a want?
Get real! besides, if you don't want elected officials driving around in expensive cars, then you institute laws and oversight to make sure that doesn't happen. And you don't put people like Bush/Cheney in charge.
