I was just reading
a story (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081007/ap_on_el_pr/mccain_keating - broken link) about McCain and the Keating Five, and it included this quote from McCain:
Quote:
"The appearance of wrongdoing, fair or unfair, can be potentially as injurious as actual wrongdoing," McCain told the AP in March, reflecting on what he said were his lessons from the scandal. "Also, when questions are raised about your integrity or for that matter anything involving your public career, even, for example, a controversial position on the issues, it is best not to hide from the media or public."

1) "The appearance of wrongdoing, fair or unfair, can be potentially as injurious as actual wrongdoing." -- this certainly explains and perhaps in McCain's mind justifies the mudslinging .... if he can convince voters of an
appearance of wrongdoing on Obama's part, perhaps he can reverse the way the election has been trending.
2) "Also, when questions are raised about your integrity or for that matter anything involving your public career, even, for example, a controversial position on the issues,
it is best not to hide from the media or public." -- do you think he ever told his running mate this? Or by "running" mate does he mean run, Sarah, run ... away from the media?
I thought McCain had changed drastically from the McCain of 2000, but now I see that he has changed drastically even from the McCain of a few months ago!
