CHAPEL HILL - Bill Ayers, the radical militant-turned-university professor whose ties to Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama are under scrutiny, is getting some support from faculty members across the country.

Professors from UNC-Chapel Hill are among the more than 3,200 educators who have signed an online petition in support of Ayers. More than a dozen signatories are from local universities here in the Triangle.

Lawrence Grossberg, a UNC communications studies professor, said he signed the petition because he believes Ayers should not be demonized for his actions 40 years ago. He said he also respects the work Ayers does now as an education professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Ayers is a school reform advocate who has written or edited more than a dozen books.

"He did break the law, and he was punished and he moved on," Grossberg said. "He built an extraordinary life. He has become one of the leading scholars in the field of education.
It all boils down to money and if parents start pulling their paying students from the college they will take notice...
So unless these petition signers are paying the college money it will not matter.
The paying parents will though..... as well as the private funds from the parents that donate money to the college.
So they can petition away it will be useless.....

And any teacher that is supporting the school should also be careful as it could backlash against them. There are many GREAT teachers that need work and they could easily be replaced....

Later, when Obama was running for office, his colleague on the board--Ayers--hosted a fund-raiser for his campaign. They also served on the Woods board. Very common for the same people to serve on the same boards. That's it. End of story. But not, of course, for the neo-cons.
The relationship goes much further than that, read Stanley Kurtz's columns. BO is a man whose friends, mentors, influences, alliances (starting with his parents, Michelle Obama, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Tony Rezko, Marilyn Katz, Reverend Wright, Rashid Khalidi, Louis Farrakhan, Raila Odinga, Obongo Ray Obama, Frank Marshal Davis, Carl Davidson, and Saul Alinsky share a common thread...hate, far left, socialist, anti American...

Stop fooling yourselves or trying to distract people....when we speak of Ayers and the others, we are questioning BO's judgment...

Yup let's allow the communist who brain washed hundreds of people into believing if they bombed the government they would turn things around. Let's also not forget:

"Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at."

and

"Dig it. First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them, then they even shoved a fork into a victim's stomach! Wild!"

You people are absolutely sick for standing up for people who advocate killing all the "rich" and then your parents. You would allow this moron to teach your own children? If so keep those quotes in mind everyday when your little one comes home from school.

No he wasn't. His wealthy and influential father hired the best legal team money could buy and Ayers was let off on 'technicalities'. He has not served a day in jail, performed one hour of community service or paid one penny in fines for what he did.

Educate yourself and learn what this Ayers guy is about. Not the googled articles that help you understand only a small part. This guy and his group were funded and backed by communist.

Well, since he teaches college level classes, I really don't worry about it. He teaches adulsts, and adults are SUPPOSED to be able to make up their own minds, not have them made up for them by a blowhard governor looking for some face time, and a State Auditor abusing his position trying to investigate private honorarium donations, and spineless university admin's that cave to a dollar from donors with an inflated sense of self worth and importance. In NE however, the standard is just do what you are told and repeat the same thing you heard from 50 other people and your parents. No wonder we can't attract jobs or businesses, or keep our graduates here.

Yeah, I totally agree, but look in this forum and you will see that adults do allow themselves to have their supposed minds made up for them.

*Sigh* I know. I had the good fortune to go to a private college in NE that didn't have these kinds of academic issues, take a break and join the Army, start a family and buy a house, then go BACK to school again and finish 8 years later. Ive been the naive college kid, and the worrying about my kids and taxes and retirement conservative-with a stint of flag waving chest thumping in the middle, and I landed pretty firmly after it all just to the left of center. It really scares me that people are going to read two sentence hit pieces on Ayers, or Obama, or McCain and Palin for that matter and VOTE based on that ignorance. I don't care who people vote for-I know who I am voting for and that is enough.

The damage to academic integrity at the U is going to take a long time to undo. They already lost an award winning biologist because of limitations to his research and the close mindedness of the U and the people that live here, and the students he had to deal with on a daily basis. Now it's been shown that the ideas taught at the U are for sale to whomever waves the most money and yells the loudest. I pay taxes too, what about MY voice in this? Not every one can afford season tickets as donors, but I still pay to support the U-what about my opinion?
