These words from GOP consultant Mike Murphy give some inkling as to why Republicans are so up in arms, spewing out the hate, over the Powell endorsement and why Obama supporters are so enthused.

Quote:
I am not normally of the view that endorsements mean much in Presidential politics. But Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama today is a real sledgehammer blow to the already staggering McCain campaign. Not just because a Powell endorsement shores up Obama's shaky foreign policy bona fides, but even more because of the content of Powell's remarks on Meet the Press. The General showed he still knows how to launch a brutal offense. Powell's remarks were an across the board indictment of the McCain campaign. He threw a subtly delivered but perfectly targeted series of chops at each of the the major fractures of the shaky McCain campaign; the Palin choice, the dark tone of the campaign, the Helter Skelter antics at the onset of the economic crisis. As a great McCain admirer, I am sad to say it, but the truth is the video of Powell's endorsement will boil across You Tube and do great damage in these closing days of the campaign.

Well, that was why he made the endorsement at this particular time. Powell's a military man, he knows that his endorsement is a powerful weapon and the best time to bring out that weapon is a moment like now.

Powell is a moderate to liberal politician, a State department bureaucrat, he is by no means a conservative, he does not like the two judges Bush appointed, he is pro abortion,no one would even no his name today if he himself were not black, he is a big proponent of affirmative action, he is always looking for a tv camera and loves the fawning press, he has been living off of Norman Schwarzkopf victory in the first Gulf War. Now he has the opportunity to finally show his real self.
There is no news here!
When Al Haig endorses Obama, then you might have something news worthy!

Too bad Haig and Schwartzkopf already endorsed McCain.

a State department bureaucrat,
Next they'll be calling him the house boy. Jesus, Joseph and Mary the man was Secretary of State, the fourth highest office in country! A bureaucrat is... oh what's the point.

The guy who opposed Gays in the military, that guy?

Let's see.

Second Lt. 1958.

First Viet Nam tour, 1962-1963, Capt Powell serves in-country as an advisor.

Served with the 3rd Armored Division.

Returns to Viet Nam and serves 2 tours as a Major and executive officer of the 23rd Infantry Division, and assistant COS for the Americal Division.

Earns his MBA in 1971 from George Washington University.

In the 1980's serves as senior military attache to Casper Wineberger.

In 1986 returns to command duty, as CIC of the V Corps before being promoted to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

Now if you had served one millisecond in the US military you wouldn't go spouting off at the mouth about affirmative action or the brilliant Gulf War where the finest and most powerful Army the world has ever known took on a conscript 6th rate Army, at best.

But like every one who "defects" from the GOP party line, you can't argue with what he says so you can only denigrate his character. But you can't denigrate Powell, no matter how deep you dig in your little racist bag of tricks.

Typical GOPer.
But then, look what the reigning GOP leaders did to Powell's reputation...
