Don't know about an address, but here's an article the Empire did last spring.

Now lawmakers have less than two months in this year's session to come up with a solution or risk further embarrassment by Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez who has been quicker to come to the aid of Alaskans than their own Legislature.

Last year Venezuelan oil company Citgo donated $5 million to distribute free heating fuel to Alaska's poorest communities. A similar program this year is getting a late start.

The Alaska dividend has nothing to do with Palin. She can't touch it! Numeorus politicians have tried to tap into the dividend and the people of Alaska vote those ideas down by a 9-1 margin no matter how broke the government claims to be. To Alaskans, that damn dividend is sacred and any politician who tries to even think about touching it, gets whacked!

Palin can;t do anything for , or against it. It is in the constitution of the state, it is controlled by the people of the state. They decide how it is managed and any changes has to be approved via a special vote.

In short, me, you and the oil companies are distributing our wealth to Alaskans, many of whom belong to a party, the AIP, so anti-american that their founder refused to be buried in our country.
Yes, and "many" of us begin our day with a refreshing little bout of aerial hunting after we polish off moose ribs and penguin eggs for breakfast and sweep out our igloos. Then after we skin the wolves we mush on over to the bank to cash our pfd checks and hurry home in time to knock off a pint of Yukon Jack before the (daily) noon meeting of the AIP, which is usually held in the local Assembly of God Church except in the event that they're using the space to exorcise witches, which usually only happens about once a week. In that event, we meet at the Mug Shot Saloon. The meetings usually last around six hours.

The rest of the time we merely devote ourselves to charitable works. My pet cause is the raising of funds for felonious AIP members who are unable to receive the pfd and are therefor broke; the money goes to purchase cemetery plots in Canada so they can be buried properly when the time comes.

Sanspeur...I seriously feel it coming on.

If that's the case, how can you vote for Sarah Palin, who governs over the most "socialistic" state in the country?

After all, not only do they tax the profits of oil companies to give a check to every Alaskan, but the state receives more federal funds by far -pork if you will - than any other state in the union. This despite the fact that they are near the bottom in terms of income tax contributions to the federal government.

In short, me, you and the oil companies are distributing our wealth to Alaskans, many of whom belong to a party, the AIP, so anti-american that their founder refused to be buried in our country.

But what's more scary is that they don't even hide thier intentions. John McCain already warned us that he wants the government, our tax dollars, to buy up every every distressed mortgage at peak value, a value that will not be seen for decades. We can't afford that kind of socialism. Socialism socialism socialism.

That's why Obama wants to cut taxes on the middle and working class. Because he knows we're tired of paying for Sarah Palin's bridges to nowhere.

Sarah Palin's Alaskonomics - TIME

We must stop the creeping onslaught of socialism. Say no to Socialist Sarah and her soulmate John "We're going to buy every house in America" McCain.
Great thread. Thanks!!!!"Alaska,The Welfare State"....that should be their slogan....Get the bumper sticker machine fired up...Alaskans LOVE their bumper stickers.

I will say this again, we are not talking about the PDF, we were discussing the windfall tax and the redistribution of that tax money to Alaskans in the form of fuel relief. I am not questioning the PDF, I am questioning Gov Palins windfall tax hike and subsequent money giveaway from that tax. If native people's get a reparation and use it to invest in oil, fine with me.

Think of it this way. If after Katrina, the oil companies in New Orleans were bringing in record profits and the state of Lousianna just decided to tax that industry alone and give everyone in New Orleans 1200 because they needed relieft from the rebuilding costs. Why should that particular industry be picked out to foot the bill through higher taxes?

WOW! A $3,200 check for everyone?? Well no wonder Sarah Palin is so gung-ho about wanting to derail any attempts to protect the wildlife in Alaska that might deter oil drilling! And,no wonder Todd Palin was a member of the AIP!
From the TIME article:

Quote:
Its ratio of federal spending received to federal taxes paid ranks third among the 50 states, and in the absolute amount it receives from Washington over and above the amount it sends to Washington, Alaska ranks No. 1.

Public property belongs to everyone.
It was a good question, and this simple answer was perfect. When you buy a new home in Florida, in most counties, the builder has to pay what's known as an "impact" fee. It's a fee to cover the cost of the environmental impact that putting a home on a lot will have.

When the oil companies drill in Alaska...they have an impact on that land, and are really paying an impact fee.

-The PDF is not her creation
-The natural gas pipeline is to benefit the residents, specially the ones in the interior of Alaska where residents must heat their homes by the use of heating oil.

Heating oil costs from $4.00 per gallon around Fairbanks, to perhaps $7.00 per gallon in the villages far away from the rest of Alaska. To heat my 1,700 Sq.-foot of living space costs me approximately $600.00 per month x 12 months per year. Can you imagine how much villagers are paying to stay warm? If I were to heat my home with natural gas, I would be paying around $250.00 per month during the winter months only, and perhaps $30.00 per month during the summer.

The socialism she speaks of is the "distribution of wealth," which means: taking from those who have in the form of taxes, and giving it to those who don't. The PDF belongs to every Alaskan, rich and poor, black and white, gay and straight, young and old, cripple or not, deaf or not, and so forth. Even the drunks in the streets receive a portion of the PFD, as long as they are AK residents.
Once more. We are not discussing your PDF. We were discussing the windfall tax that gave you all an extra amount of "fuel relief" by taking it from the profits of the company.
Your choice of lifestyle is not my concern really, if you cannot afford the place, you are welcome here.
Socialism is far more complex than the Robin Hood scenario you are discussing and it mainly involved government involvement in owning the proceeds or methods of production to provide an income for all, which is what your windfall tax was all about. The point of this whole discussion was whether Gov Palin was being a hypocrit by denigrating her opponent by trying to raise the spectre of Chavez and Castro, while benefiting from socialistic programs in her own state.
Gov Palin uses your state as an example for her capitalistic tendencies and she has painted a picture of Alaska that I could not recognize, but which has been repeated ad nauseum, moose hunting, wolf control, oil flowing, extreme fishing, hockey, when in fact we know you have a great college, environmental innovations, and a tourist industry that is the envy of many. I am sorry that Gov Palin does not really understand socialism, but she insists she does and we have every right to point out her error. Everyone loves Alaska and we consider your state to be a jewel in the crown of this great nation, and we would like to have the same appreciation for the entire nation shown by Gov Palin.

No it's capitalism because the Alaskan people own the land they are drilling on. They are getting a return on their investment.

It's not like Nobama who wants to take money from one citizen and give to some deadbeat citizen.
