When did that start? VPs wait for the death of the President, and break ties, and if there is money in the state dept budget they get to go to funerals of lesser leaders. Any thoughts?
The Vice President of the U.S. is the President of the Senate.
Nevertheless, I'd like to know the context of your title statement for this thread. Did she really say exactly that? Second graders cannot understand complex issues regarding how our government works, hence she would have to put things into simple terms for them.
Because the V.P. does "preside over the Senate", such a statement is not wrong, though V.P.'s these days rarely exercise their authority over Senate proceedings; but they could.
Umm...no, it is true that the VP is president of the Senate. The VP's authority in the Senate is limited to casting a tie-breaking vote when necessary. Didn't see anything in the Constitution about waiting for the death of the President and going to funerals.
How sad that people are so threatened by Sarah Palin that they monitor her every word to twist and make yet more immoral and reprehensible attacks on her, yet barry hussein osama, a candidate for president, clearly states he believes in socialism, is friends with terrorists and racists and lies about it, as well as hates America and everyone who doesn't think like he does and nobody seems to notice.
Sarah Palin is an idiot. And a dangerous idiot.
Obama never "clearly state[d]" that he believes in socialism. Neither is he "friends with terrorists." Neither does he "hate America." I think it's pretty clear who the "hater" is here.
Hardball...yes, a shining example of fairness and un-baised journalism. Wasn't chris matthews removed from covering the Presidential debates along with his pal, keith angry oberman? Oh well, no matter, as long as they cover up for barry all is well in the leftist world.

Oddly enough, that doesn't mean that the Vice President is in charge of it. They get to cast a vote in case of a tie. They can sit in the best seat in the place and "preside" over it. Usually they just let the junior senators sit there so they can learn the rules of order. I wonder if Sarah knows the rules of order.

I dont know if this is where it started but in the late 1890s
Adlai Stevenson 1 (Vice President under Grover Cleveland) was quite the player as President of the Senate. he took a great deal of pleasure in the role and was praised for his non-partisian approach.
Yes, unlike joe biden who's NEVER made a gaffe in public...
This isn't a gaffe, this a basic understanding of the job she is applying for, and the constitution she wants to defend. And she is teaching wrong things to kids in school! Now some poor teacher will have to go get a school house rock tape out of mothballs for her kids.
