True but they get federal funds in the form of grants especially since 9/11. A great deal of money has been given to law enforcement to buy equipment.

well we couldn't do that, but if we were to assume what it would be like without any of these things ever in place...one of two things would happen. we would either be a 3rd world country or i personally think communities would come together to achieve this on their own, for roads and schools etc. that's how it actually came about.

nationalizing things these was just really the next step in an attempt to "equalize" different areas and to provide a standard.

imagine actually being able to keep your income though.

Who runs all non-profits? people who is the owner of Red Cross?
I dont know but even Red Cross does a better job compared to the Government.

My point was that the current non-profits can't keep up with the needs of people so I don't see them being able to do any better if all social spending was cut.

That is why you would have millions opening...
Like I said once the US take down all social programs
We would have more...
Americans(not the government) give millions of dollars to others countries, like Bill Gates giving millions for AIDS in Africa.
Once all social program are out.
They would redirect their future millions in our country and our non-profit organizations.

Also since they dont get so much free things(housing, health insurance, food, etc) they would work harder to get out of poverty

Some of these programs have been called socialist, by that definition then all of them are. So let's pretend that the next president completely cuts social spending of any kind.

What would happen to people utilizing these programs and how would it affect our nation?

Keep in mind that prior to the 1930s we were a nation based on agriculture and manufactoring. Today we are a service oriented economy with fewer low skilled job opportunities.

Well, my guess is we will increase military spending.
