I'd appreciate it if the Obama campaign would run this or quote it in an ad or two. It would be pretty powerful.
Just shows what a morally bankrupt old character McCain has become. Is. Always was?
I just heard he was against that bill because there was no restraint in spending in the bill and bigger gov't. That he was against.
LOWRY: If you don't mind, I want to ask you a domestic policy question, a straight talk question, if you will. In retrospect, was it a mistake for you to vote against the Bush tax cuts?
MCCAIN: No, because I had significant tax cuts, and there was restraint of spending included in my proposal. I saw no restraint in spending. We presided over the greatest increase in the size of government since the Great Society. Spending went completely out of control. It's still out of control. Wasteful earmark spending is a disgrace, and it caused us to alienate our Republican base.
I just heard he was against that bill because there was extra pork put into it. That he was against.
"we feel obviously that wealthy people can afford more."
"when you reach a certain level of comfort, there's nothing wrong with paying somewhat more."
It doesnt matter whether he was or wasnt "socialist," the point is it's all rhetoric.
People on this forum are going crazy with "OBAMA SOCIALIST! OBAMA SOCIALIST!" It's good to put this sort of politician-talk into perspective, and to show that Mr. Honorable expects the Joe-the-Plumbers of this country not to be the researchy type.
Here is Obama's "spread the wealth around" quote in context:
"My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s going be good for everybody. If you’ve got a plumbing business, you’re gonna be better off if you’ve got a whole bunch of customers who can afford to hire you, and right now everybody’s so pinched that business is bad for everybody, and I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody."
See. to me that sounds like common sense. But the Republicans picked up the quote, labeled it, and flung it out to the base like meat to dogs.
