While Obama is ramping up for a huge gathering in Grant Park, Chicago on election night.

"....McCain supporters will be crowding into the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix on election night, but it looks like McCain won't be addressing them in person, instead, he plans to make his post election remarks to a small group of reporters and guests on the hotel's lawn"

YouTube - AP Campaign Minute

From yesterday. Doesn't sound like a victory speech.

I have to believe at this point he is planning to be there. This would be the wrong message for supporters.

McCain might skip his own election-night party - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081023/ap_on_el_pr/mccain_election_night - broken link)
NEW YORK – Republican John McCain is not going to make his election night remarks in the traditional style — at a podium standing in front of a sea of campaign workers jammed into a hotel ballroom. Oh, the throng of supporters will hold the usual election night party at the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix on the evening of Nov. 4.

You need to read the article yourself and evaluate for yourself.

If the head of the ticket isnt man enough to share the agony of defeat....thats a clear indication of why he lost......he says he has "already been tested"..what he doesnt say is that he failed the test. What a pathetic shell of his former self he has become.......he really reminds me of the golum in The Lord of The Rings.....the pathetic wraith who has been totally consumed by his own quest for power...."must have it"; "my precious"

Did you read the article? That is not clear at this point. This is very difficult for him and he is keeping his options open

The article doesnt contain one single new factoid beyond what has been on line, and all the blogs. I saw this story yesterday on the two blogs that are part of my daily news update.

I understand the losing candidate waiting upstairs in their hotel room until the outcome is inevitable...and then calling the victor and congratulationg them and then coming down to join his supporters and conceed, (they need to hear it from him) and thank them and then hopefully try to undo some of the damage he has done to America through his highly divisive low road campaign. A good concession speech could go along way to restoring some of his dignity and honor that has been lost in recent weeks...and in unifying the country.

For him to side step the inevitable is really akin to saving face and abandoning ship. He needs to begin the healing and who better to begin with than the campaign workers who he has pumped full of his terrorist, socialist, not one of us crapola. They need to be de-programmed so they can return to their normal lives.

It would be good if he could anticipate the inevitable and stop the low road even before election night....again it would be in service to his country. County First.

It seems weird, why not just plan a potential victory party instead and if he loses, which looks very possible at this point, well, you just change the theme?

It just seems strange. If you're planning to win, wouldn't you want the American public watching at home on TV to feel like they picked a winner? Surrounded by throngs of supporters?

Never mind. I think the writing is on the wall. I agree with Elston's McCain Golum analogy.
