Barack Obama, the first black major party nominee, is positioned to win the largest share of white voters of any Democrat in more than three decades, according to an exclusive Politico analysis of recent Gallup and Pew Research Center polling.

The most recent two weeks of Gallup polling, which includes roughly 13,000 interviews, show 44 percent of non-Hispanic white voters presently support Obama - the highest number for a Democrat since 47 percent of whites backed Jimmy Carter in 1976.

Too bad there is still racism in this country and people can't get over it. Good news non-the-less.

I honestly believe party affilation is at play more in this election. I say this this in all honesty. My vote is based on my political views and beliefs, not the race of the candidate. I can't speak for the rest of the country, but that is my reason for who I'm voting for. I'd vote for Allen Keys if he were the Republican nominee. I know I will probably get attacks in here for this. But that is how I feel.

Oh i'm the same way man. I could care less the color of the candidate. I vote with the issues and Obama is with me on them and McCain isn't. Plain and simple. Who cares if the person is white, black, asian, muslim, etc.

I would suspect any support for Obama, of any color description, that comes from outside Illinois would be At Historic Level since this is his first campaign outside Illinois.

At the Kansas City Obama rally last Saturday, there was a big mix of people from all races & ages. However, one thing I DID notice was the very FEW (maybe 3, I saw?) muslim people. Keep this in mind: When I take my baby to Children's Mercy in Kansas City, only a little ways from the Liberty Memorial where the rally was held, at my son's doctor there are LOTS of muslims. I am usually one of the only white people there, the majority are muslim,or black. Same thing when I used to take the baby to another hospital in KC,mostly muslims & black people, very few whites. The white people at the Obama rally were definitely in the majority. Just thought I would put in my personal observation. I thought it interesting,w/ all the people hollering that Obama is a muslim.
