Gregory D. Lee

October 27, 2008

It’s no wonder that, in 2000, the lawyers for Vice President Al Gore attempted to have the courts throw out the absentee ballots of Floridian military members when they challenged George W. Bush’s win of the state, which gave him the presidency. Does the military attract patriotic, conservative men and women from all socio-economic backgrounds?

This military family is solidly behind Sen. Obama. A CIC with anger management issues and the judgment that chose Caribou Barbie for a running mate? No, thanks!

It's a poll only of their readers who choose to participate

It's unscientific and a margin of error could not be calculated.

"Although public opinion pollsters use random selection to survey the general public, the Military Times survey is based on responses from those who chose to participate. That means it is impossible to calculate statistical margins of error commonly reported in opinion surveys, because those calculations depend on random sampling techniques.

The voluntary nature of the survey could affect the results — if supporters of one candidate are more prone to express their opinions, for example. The dependence on e-mail could also affect the results, because e-mail users may have different characteristics than the military population as a whole.

Characteristics of Military Times readers may also affect the results. The group surveyed is significantly older than the military as a whole, and the survey group contains a higher percentage of officers than is present in the military.

Conversely, junior enlisted troops, women and racial and ethnic minorities made up a smaller share of the sample than of the military at large. While it is difficult to predict how those factors affect the results, those groups are generally regarded as more supportive of Democratic candidates.""

In other words, it's a poll of old white elitist farts.

Although an interesting demographic, do you really want the entire future of your country decided upon by folks who have been living under that kind of stress and fatigue? Besides being mission oriented, the idea of having a militaristic government is not one that this 20 year military spouse sacrificed for all those years.

Stress and fatigue?

I'm an Army veteran myself. You're average Army Times reader is either retired, or an above age 50 REMF, or having a donut and coffee at the AAFES cafe right now.

For the most part these are not active duty front line soldiers we're talking about here.

I was talking of both, as a whole, mission oriented and our active duty are fatigued and stressed. WE are spending tons of money on the issue.
