I then began to enlighten myself, search out my own truth and when things like that happen, your eyes become open to the WORLD in ways that you hadn't noticed before. I am also a f.a.g. hag. I love gay people, yet I don't agree with that lifestyle. So you can be around plenty of people that you disagree with, but understand where they are coming from and respect them for their choices in life.
Sorry but no respectible f.a.g hag would NOT agree with their way of life. I love my gay friends and in full support of their lifestyle eventhough I'm not gay.

When I say disagree, it means that is not my way of choosing. Maybe I should have worded it better. I understand the gay lifestyle and how there is nothing wrong with it. I have known quite a few transexuals, have seen 2 through their hormonal treatment and operation, and this is something they were born with, I understand that. I should have said that it's not the way I swing, but I understand it and I feel closest to them.

So my saying "disagree" I mean that I would never lay down with a woman, because I'm straight... That is all I mean!

Nixon and his band of criminal cronies tried to harm many of my family, friends, & neighbors, not to mention what they did to the country. Makes them scumbags in my book.

I didn't trust the government. I guess that probably would mean I'd support neither party if I was 18 and voting now. I did like Reagan and how he made people proud to be americans again and not be pushovers. Bush became another Lyndon B. Johnson by the end of his second term.
Obama will likely be another Jimmy Carter. McCain will most likely be a Gerald Ford.

Question-yes. But I didn't seek out answers in radically liberal institutions or people any more than I sought answers in radically traditional people or solutions. Isn't that really the same thing, after all? Trading in one extreme for another?

I prefer balance and in the end I opted not to rely on either extreme to shape the opinions that would influence my actions and impact my life. My thoughts are my own, in the end I am accountable to myself and God...not beholden to an ideology spawned from discontent and shaped by radical teachings of either 'side'.

The radical views and associations are not from a distant past that Obama has outgrown, but from his current and recent associations, many of which he only found 'unacceptable' when running for POTUS and others which he will not denounce to this day. His radical views are ongoing and consistent over many years.

I was a radical for a bit, but I grew out of it.
After college I took my degrees and got a J-O-B.
I decided to use my ingenuity to make a life for myself versus waiting on the government or someone else to help me.

I became conservative.

I, too, graduated in 1968. I was an adament anti-war protester and womens rights advocator. I actually knew people who were professed Weathermen. We were at the same marches, attended some of the same classes, a couple went to my church, we were at the same parties, etc. I only know of one now and he is an educator at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Il. Did I know of any violence before it happened? No. I was a 'peace-nik' through and through. Did I agree with the bombings, absolutely not. Am I a terrorist because I knew less than a half dozen Weathermen in my lifetime, absolutely not.

I actually grew up in an inner-ring suburb of a major city that's known for (the suburb is, not just the city) being really progressive, diverse, and PC. I knew almost zero Republicans growing up, besides my grandparents. So I rebelled the only way I knew how - I embraced right-wing beliefs throughout high school and early college, and the conservative reputation of my school was actually a major reason I picked it.

Being a little older and more mature now (and left-wing again), I do seek out radical types, but not out of a fervent desire for radical political change or because I like the energy of activism. I'm pretty cynical by this point about the lasting good that many "radical" policies will do, to say nothing of "revolution", and I'm an introvert who gets stressed out easily in loud, angry crowds.

It's more because at least socialists, communists, and anarchists see the problems in the world and are willing to at least try to fix them - I'm really tired of the milquetoast idealism of mainstream centrist Democrats. And in my experience, Democratic organizations are full of "normies", for lack of a better word, and I'd rather hang out and make friends with the kinds of misfits, nerds, intellectuals, and LGBTQIA+ and sexually free people that you see in actual leftist circles. I feel more accepted and valuable in circles that won't just ignore me or use me as a gay token.

Well, if you were a true conservative, you probably wouldn't be supporting Trump.
