A former Republican Secretary of State and one of John McCain's most prominent supporters offered a stunningly frank and remarkably bleak assessment of Sarah Palin's capacity to handle the presidency should such a scenario arise.

Eagleburger Blisters Palin: "Of Course" She's Not Ready

Even their own supporter thinks she's a joke.

why, that lying, socialist, marxist, betraying, un-american, GOP-traitor. How dare he go against America's party to appease the Washington elite. I'll bet he's in league with our enemies abroad too, and that's why he's trying to sabatoge the election and therefore America.

Seriously though, after enough GOP dissings, you can't just write them off as out of touch. at some point you have to admit that maybe...just maybe all of these guys must have a point.

Lawrence Eagleburger, who served as Secretary of State under George H.W. Bush and whose endorsement is often trumpeted by McCain, said on Thursday that the Alaska governor is not only unprepared to take over the job on a moment's notice but, even after some time in office, would only amount to an "adequate" commander in chief.
"And I devoutly hope that [she] would never be tested," he added for good measure -- referring both to Palin's policy dexterity and the idea of McCain not making it through his time in office.
I really hope McCain supporters are reading this stuff before they vote.

They didn't take heed when Buckley jumped ship, or when any of the other intellectual conservatives bailed, for that matter.

Most of the McCain Palin voters (and the people they will vote for) wouldn't know real conservatism if it bit them on the rear end -- the modern Repub voters vote mostly based on hyped up social issues.

I don't think McCain supporters read at all.....I think they listen to neocon radio and just come on here and make idiotic posts. The evidence is clear to everyone but them.

Hey, does this mean that McCain was right when he could only think of 4 Secretaries of State who had endorsed him? Or have you all already forgotten that painful moment on Meet The Press?

Eagleburger was only Sec/State for 5 weeks IIRC, recess appointment. Most of his career he was Henry the K's pimp and bagman.

Of course now that he's crossed over the far right will begin their smear of him which will outdo anything I could post here!

For some reason it was Eagleburger, whom both McCain and Palin refered to most frequently to counter the Colin Powell endorsement of Obama. It is Eagleburger who McCain has continued to call for foriegn policy advice during this campaign....It is devestating that he comes out a few days before the election to say that the Vice Presidential candidate is totally unprepared and unqualified to step into the Presidency.....should anything happen to the President. The best he could say was with enough preparation she might be able to adequately fulfill the office....minimum adequate would be the highest level of capacity and that only with lots and lots of preparation.

John McCain did NOT put country first. He did not put you or me first. He clearly demonstrated that he would rather lose the country than lose this election. He chose Palin solely for the bump he would get at the convention......he wasnt even looking as far as November. He didnt vet her or even go to meet her.....she was as much of a crapshoot as Joe the Plumber.

We cannot tolerate the erratic self serving judgement of a 72 year sick old man and we certainly can't elect a totally unqualified, ill suited, oppurtunitic neophyte that he chose as his heir apparent.
