I got paid by the state of Virgina to be an election official and they do not take taxes out, you have to report it on your tax forms at the end of the year. Not everything is on a W=2 basis.

This really isn't Obama's fault. It's whoever was in charge of that office that is at fault.

I'm sure they'll get a 1099 at the end of the year.

I guess they didn't read the fine print stating that 20% of earnings went to "the cause". Every hour you work 20% goes back to the campaign.

And yes taxes should be taken out of the pay and it should be reported as a wage earned!
Yeah, that whole with-holding thing can be quite a shock to new wage-earners

Well on the taxes Obama is being consistent because he believes only those people making over $250,000 a year should pay taxes. Certainly a measley $10 an hour doesn't come close.

True, but they are still suppose to have SS withheld along with state taxes, etc.

But maybe there is no reason to be concerned. PP's are convinced these people will properly claim the income on their taxes in April. I hear lots of companies are going to pay in gift cards now. Bwaahaaahaaaaa!!!

Maybe as independent contractors they were supposed to be paying into social security taxes on their own.
