The other child may have seen it on TV, as I have. Haven't you ever turned on Cable TV and saw porn on, while fliping the channels? Maybe that is where this child got that idea.
So you agree with me that parents who allow their 7 year old to watch Fox News should be whipped....cool!
Most TVs today have a parental lock control.
Marijuana is a drug. It is mostly illegal but in some places it is used as medicine.
You know it's too late to discuss pot for the first time when you hear one of your small children ask the other "What have you been smoking?" when they think the other did or said something dumb.

I agree. Why have 2nd and 3rd graders vote? I too asked my kids why they voted the way they did and they couldn't answer. They should concentrate on the election in general, the constitution, 3 branches of government, electoral college, etc. and leave the political party differences until later grades.
Very true. As if a 7-year-old can judge candidates' stands on nuclear proliferation treaties, NAFTA, diplomacy, capital gains taxes, etc. All they're doing with these mock elections for little kids is trying to gauge how the parents are voting and running a beauty contest.
They could, however, have an election for classroom monitor, though, nominate candidates, discuss issues, and vote. That would be relevant for the kids and they'd learn about the process.

A friend's 12 yr old, 6th grader son called her a s*l*u*t one day. After she got over her anger and shock, she asked him if he knew what that was and he said "no". Kids pick up stuff they hear around, w/o always knowing what they are saying.

Hmm, maybe he was hanging out with some English kids. The word actually means a woman who is unkempt or slovenly, according to traditional English usage. Was your friend frumping around in sweats with her hair messed up?
No, she's a home ec teacher and usually looks good. I think he meant it in the usual way. He just didn't know what he was saying. There aren't many Brits here. But thanks for the reminder that words are used differently in different places.
My 7 year old daughter said last night that a kid in her class told her that "Obama kills babies". She was in tears because she voted for Obama in her class's election. Obviously the kid picked it up from a parent somewhere. Regardless of where you fall on the abortion issue, it's very sad that some parents would drag 7 year olds into a very complicated, contentious and gut-wrenching ADULT issue to which they have no sense of understanding, and to use such divisive language at that.
In my opinion, parents have no business talking about the abortion issue with 7 year olds.
Obviously, you have no idea of how much kids know about sex of all kinds. I taught school in an urban district and took condoms off a 2nd grader ( age 7). She got it from "(my) mommy's candy jar". [She was in the process of showing it to a boy as they came in off the bus.]
If parents can talk about condoms and no one gets upset, why not topics as abortion? Until govt. outlaws it, there is still freedom of religion and speech. I personally do not think either is a topic for 7 year olds, but that is still for a parent to determine.
