The Bill Ayers bashing not only didn't hurt Obama but quite possibly helped him defeat McCain. Ayers while being on the extreme of the movement was an integral part of the Anti Vietnam War movement. Millions of Boomers and near Boomers were part of that effort and part of the idealism of that time period. What many forgot was who we were truly fighting against in that movement. It was the infamous Military Industrial Complex and their minions. Many of their minions today are members of the Republican Right and were never going to vote for Obama, Ayers or not. What the Ayers bashing did for many of us was to take us back to that time periond and remind us who it was we were trying protect the country from. The foe then is the same foe now. The Right Wing Military Industrial Establishment that seeks to manipulate American's and the World for their personal wealth. If ever there was a company that is the poster child for MIE it is Haliburton and Dick Cheney. Ayers helped to remind millions of Americans of their roots and what they really are about and what are country is really about. As Ayers has become integrated in the modern establishment respected in academia and a contributor to the betterment of society so have many other protestors of that era. Thank you Republican Righters for reminding so many millions of Americans who they really are and what they really once believed was possible. Now with Obama we once again believe we can become a society that values all seeks prosperity for the better good both here and abroad.

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Obama 08

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

they have a word to describe those who kill others in order to enforce a message for their beliefs onto others. its called TERRORIST.

One who utilizes the systematic use of violence and intimidation to achieve political objectives, while disguised as a civilian non-combatant.

One who engages in the unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence individually or with an organized group against people or property.

An individual who uses violence, terror, and intimidation to achieve a result.

Yup that was the rhetoric of the Military Industrial Establishment as they did the same except in uniform and drafted young men to do their dirty work under penalty of jail. Yup, yup yup.

Vietnam Draft
How the Majority of my generation felt about the Vietnam Draft including President Clinton

It is my opinion that Bill Clinton's actions toward the draft was not a separate case, but his actions, and those of his family and friends using influence were reflected throughout the United States by thousands of other American families. The vast majority of male students attending colleges and universities were very concerned and fearful of the draft. Most did not go to Bill Clinton's extremes.

I wonder how many voted Obama and rejected the war monger John McCain?

Ayers was more than a simple war protester. The group he belonged to had designs on overthrowing the government and protested using violence as opposed to those who engaged in sit ins or other peaceful protests, burned their draft cards or fled to Canada.

Pop quiz: Please answer with the name of the president and their party.

Under whom did the conflict in Vietnam and draft escalate?

Who was the warmonger that sent McCain off to wage war?

Who ended the draft?

Who ended selective service registration?

Who reinstated selective service registration?

An Angry White Guy in Chicago: Bill Ayers: American Hero
You see, The Weatherman blew up buildings and sent out warnings to evacuate each one prior to detonation. These cats were a bunch of kids who were tired of watching other kids get killed in a meritless war overseas and saw no effect in the sit-ins, love-ins, put-a-flower-in-the-barrel-of-a-gun-ins. They decided that, in order to actually protest the war in a way that would make the Wagers of Said War pay attention, they needed to hit them where it hurt - their bank accounts and their physical symbols in the world.

Ayers never killed anyone. He had the decency to give his targets a warning call before bombing them, unlike McCain.

These are the divisions that were rekindled by the attempt to demonize Ayers. It worked for some one way and for others another way. It did take some undecideds and move them to Obama as they remembered why they felt the way they did back then.

PA Editors Blog: While McCain fights the Weather Underground, He doesn't Know which way the wind is blowing?
As Dow Jones drops to near 8000 today, losing around 30% of its value since the crisis began, John McCain continues to run against Bill Ayers, a "weather man" of four decades ago and Sarah Palin prepares to drop a Hockey puck in Philadelphia.

You don't need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows
