Actually... my 72 year old mother in law lives with me. She's paralyzed with MS and after her husband died last year, my wife and I bought a house and moved her in. Despite the medical challenges, she's great to live with... funny, loves watching Crime TV and is a sports nut (I always have some place to watch Sunday football) and is a politcal junkie. This year we got her an absentee ballot... she voted for Obama.
Having my MIL live with me is actually an excellent buffer to my wife... she usually takes MY side.
His mother-in-law is moving into the White House with them!!!!! Can you imagine after a long day of dealing with the cheerless and aggressive Ruskies coming home to Michelle AND her mama on a tear? Good Lord, no man deserves THAT!
My money is on concerned she'll be safe. With racist idiots out there who would love to take him down, what better way to do it than to kidnap his MIL and make headline news. I can see it now.
Bush has a mother in law too, doesn't he? A lot of people hate him but I've never heard of his mother-in-law being in danger.
I think you all are taking yourselves way too seriously. Lighten up people. Teatime posted a comment about Obama having his MIL to deal with after a hard day at the office. Taken in the context of Obama's office being the Oval Office and Obama being POTUS, it's pretty funny to think about--if you can put aside partisan bias and think about it. If the MIL-living-with-family weren't such a stereotypical joke, why would there be so many TV shows and skits done about it?
So, it's another "first". We have our first African-American (or mixed race or whatever term you deem most politically appropriate) President. And now we have our first "First Mother in Law".
Well, what is the big deal anyway? Not only would this be great for the girls who will not be seeing as much of their father as they are used to, and whose mother will also be away on official trips and duties having grandma there would be a great comfort. Also for Michelle....she is not going to have as much access to her husband for the foreseeable future either.
Now, I do hope that Obama likes his mil, but really....how can a mil be pissy with her sil the potus? I imagine all of her friends are going to get quite sick of hearing."Oh, thats nice that your sil got a promotion...did I tell you that barack was elected potus? Oh, I did? Hmmm..." Or at least thats how my moms circle of friends are
I'm not insinuating anything. Michelle is known to be a strong personality, one whom they had to hide at times because of her mouth. Add an in-law into ANY household and you get tension.
But, let me guess -- you are an adult still living at home so you don't understand the problem that the rest of us see?
Here's news hunnybunny ... shhhhhhhhh, the White House is HUGE. You make it sound like the Obama family is going to be shuttered in a 500sf apartment .... nah, Mrs. Robinson is going to have lots of space.
