Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) Quotes

We trust, sir, that God is on our side. It is more important to know that we are on God's side.

Palin: Election Day Results Are Up To God

Does this mean that God hates Republicans? Or does he hate Americans in general?
No.

It means that, if there is an omnipotent, omniscient deity (God), as ever, we do not know or understand God's plan, and if we think we know God's will in such things, we are deluding ourselves.

There is a difference between "God knows and cares about every sparrow that falls from its nest" and "...therefore, God is going to intervene in that sparrow's life."

(And yes, I understand that your goal here is likely to prick the Palin supporters, rather than to say anything about God or America, but... I'm pretty sick of it, so I am giving you a real response to your rhetorical questions.)

True, but the ones that do seem to hold a lot of power.

Sounds like "hates Republicans"...finally loves Americans....

From the link:""""Sarah Palin describes herself as a "hard-core pro-lifer" and expresses confidence that in spite of disheartening polls, "putting this in God's hands, that the right thing for America will be done at the end of the day on Nov. 4.""""

Does she now acknowledge that the right thing was done????

He listened, but sometimes he can't always answer all prayers. He has something better in store.
Not all my prayers are answered, but something better always seems to come around.

The second is not even an option.

Let's assume God listened to prayers from both sides. The pro-McCain camp prayed to God, and the pro-Obama camp prayed to God also. According to the pre-election polls, there were more Obama supporters than McCain supporters. Since Obama won the election, it is safe to assume that the prayers of the Obama supporters must have outweighed the prayers of the McCain supporters.

Now if it is "resistance to tyranny", wouldnt the "insurgency" be more like "freedom fighters"?

Remember, Sarah Palin thinks we are doing "God's will" in Iraq. Who's God, theirs, or ours?
If those on the religious right REALLY believed that God was God for everyone on the planet, they wouldn't be so quick to want him to do what is only in the best interest of America. (Or more acurately, America's wallet.) Of course I am a traitor commie liberal for thinking this way.

No, I'm sorry.

The tortured logic behind this is just too much.

Let's start with your beginning:
If we assume God, then we not only assume God listens to the prayers, we also assume God knows what is in our hearts.

But neither listening to our prayers nor knowing what is in our hearts holds any sway over what God either does or what God permits to happens, which is not the same.

Then the whole notion of 'weight of prayers' - whether you mean sheer mass or you mean influence - suggests that each prayers has sufficiently equivalent oomph that you can aggregate them. There is no substantiation for this theory.

And, further, you assume the prayers are all "Please, God, let McCain win" or "Let Obama win" or the like, but there is no basis for that, either.

With the exception of the 1969 Mets, it is unclear that God has been directly intervening in our daily lives for a fair while now. How presumptuous, even in a facetious and twisted debate, to think he would choose this time to intervene!

Just stop poking at their religious beliefs for the purpose of getting a rise out of them, would you please? That they do or would do or might do the same or would or might claim God's will had spoken is no reason to bait them.

It really isn't.

And, for what it's worth, it wins you no brownie points with this flaming liberal, who finds it reprehensible that you would decry their religious convictions, and then mock them in this fashion.
