Ethnicity can relate to race, cultural group, or nationality. The terms are not mutually exclusive. "Ethnic Albanian", comes to mind.

Further, ethnicity can simply amount to observance of a group's customs, beliefs, and language.

Besides that, this has nothing to do with this thread nor did the person you replied to say anything remotely related to what you are apparently inferring from her post.

What? I think you are confused. But that's OK. People's ethnic backgrounds are becoming increasingly blended and confusing, which is fantastic. It throws the racists off course.

We have been singing that song for ages! It is great! We had our Irish American Flag Flying on Election Day and we had our three foot O'Bama letters on our fence! Good day for the Irish. Our day has come! (Side note, races are only a human attempt at the Dewey Decimal system for classifiying people, and we know the Dewey Decimal has gone by way of the DoDo, so let's hope the race stuff does too!)

This song is so relentlessly cheerful. I recommend it for morning aerobics--chuckling while you get your heart pumping is good for your muscles. And your general mood.

I think I have it correct, but whatever you guys think is okay by me. I know my race is Caucasian, but my nationality is German with a tad of Danish.

If I were off topic as the other posted suggested because I didn't mention BHO being Irish, that would be his/her assumption. What I said has to do with races vs. nationalities and in the example of Barack, he is two races with many nationalities. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Keep all those people who keep trying to fit you into a neat little box on their toes O'bama!
I was thinking, maybe his mother is Irish, when I read your post.

If you were born in the United States, your "nationality" is American. Your ethnicity is German/Danish.

You are right on all accounts. My husband's father is Korean and his mother is an Irish Catholic from NY He was born in NY, has never been to Korea and is as American as anyone I know.

My point was, it is becoming increasingly difficult to judge a person's ethnicity and nationality based solely on their appearance. When people approach my husband with the question "what are you" he has every right to answer "Irish."...Just ask my daughter Shannon

Why then are children within a school district "coded" with a choice of only five ethnicities?

White, Non-Hispanic (or maybe it's just White)

Hispanic

Black

Asian

Pacific Islander

This is confusing. If you look on this country's fact page, you'll see the same choices as well as American Indian/Alaskan Native added.
