For those Obamabashers out there who have/will attempt(ed) to somehow blame Obama for the current economic woes the country is feeling, here's a dose of reality. According to the organization officially charged with dating the start and end of economic downturns - the US has been in a recession for a full year (starting in December of 2007). As I've mentioned before on this board, typically a recession is not even announced until it's already over (since the numbers get refined as additional follow-on data is brought into the equation) - but this particular recession has been so severe and long-lasting that we may not even be at the bottom yet:

It's official: U.S. in a recession since December 2007 - Dec. 1, 2008

Clearly Obama is inheriting a REAL MESS.

Ken

Like this was a surprise.... I would say it started a bit earlier. just no one wants to admit it... it took a year to admit it anyway... hmmm will it take as long for them to say, nope it was really a depression?

Thanks for this post - it does shed a bit of truth and reality on the economic situation and when the recession really started (but then, when does reality ever matter to Obama Bashers???).

I guess Hannity is going to go full bore now on his 'This is Obama's Recession' kick - sort of proof-by-repeated-assertion... - how much do you want to bet???

Oh well, any intelligent person knows this is Bush's recession, Bush's fiscal disaster...

Obama will be the one who cleans up the mess Bush left him... the whole world knows that.

Well, if he does--so what?

I cared about fools like that before the election, because they had the power to sway voters. But now I really couldn't give a damn. I only worry about what people think when they have any actual power.

I'm more concerned with why it was denied up until now and all of a sudden, we've been in a recession for a year? I'm not even an economist and I could have told you that!

Blame Obama? How can you blame Obama for this mess? Duh... are you living on another planet cause this mess started even before the election campaigns... What I "CAN" blame him for is when he steps into office and makes things worse (I can GUARANTEE it)... he already appointed the wrong people and he already has bad ideas with socialism... its going to get worse... did I mention he was "for" the bailouts... he wanted to ease the suffering at the cost of prolonging the suffering.. not exactly a smart idea but understandable... if anyone is blaming Obama, it is for his poor choices in putting lobbyists in positions of power... oppss...

What are you offering as your guarantee? I'd like to take you up on it.

Nobody wants to officially say the "R" word until they have to because of the way people react. Even when it isn't a surprise. Not even remotely a surprise. Surely everyone in the US knows we're in a recession--but when they made it official today the Dow plummeted. It doesn't make sense, but it's predictable.

Just going to post this because I find it hilarious at how wrong certain people were:

YouTube - Peter Schiff Was Right 2006 - 2007 (2nd Edition)

Who's laughing now I guess.
