McCain's biggest failure was in 2000, when he was dragged through mud by the Republican mainstream and called "too old". His nomination in 2008 was a joke.

Actually the Mayans may be right when they ended their calendar is 2012; may not be needed after 4 years of Obama because there may not be anything left to run for in 2012 anyway.

I think the Mayan calendar ends in 2012 because they were writing it out on a very long stone tablet but they still ran out of room... or maybe some guy dropped it...

The downslide began with the nomination of Palin. The avalanche was perpetuated by his comments and actions during the start of the economic crisis.

And throughout the last months of the campaign period, Palin continued to provide little tremors and earthquakes that kept things shaking and never let McCain regain his footing.

Had McCain chose Romney or Pawlenty, I think there might have been a couple of missteps during the economic crisis but he would have had a level headed running mate that would have helped him to handle things better.

Instead he had to conduct damage control on his running mate and was therefore unable to focus on what was happening to the country he wanted to lead.

He NEVER SUSPENDED his campaign! He kept running ads, he kept making speeches, he kept raising money, he kept appearing on TV. So what does "suspend" mean to you?

Yeah, it came off more like he wanted a break from campaigning!
