Did McCain lose the election because he decided to suspend his campaign during the financial crisis?
That "suspending his campaign" business was a despicable ploy. It worked for him years ago and he thought he'd play us again this time. It might have worked with more people if it hadn't been for David Letterman showing him to be a liar and a sneak and then his complete ineffectuality once he actually did drift down to Washington - oh and also if he hadnt at the same time called for his debate with Obama to be suspended, too - oh and also if he'd actually suspended his campaign ads... an utter weasel. A weak, vile man. We're just lucky to have been spared.
John McCain's definition of "suspend", like his definition of "completely qualified", was completely at odds with the rest of the country's connotation of those words.
He NEVER SUSPENDED his campaign! He kept running ads, he kept making speeches, he kept raising money, he kept appearing on TV. So what does "suspend" mean to you?

Remember that one of the first things he tried to do after suspending his campaign was to ask to move the presidential debated to the time of the VP debate and reschedule that for whenever if ever. Remember the concern at that very moment about Palin and her lack of ability to perform in the debate and you have to wonder if getting her out of the debate was not part of the end game. As it was she just refused to answer questions she didn't want to.
CNN's Dana Bash reports that McCain officials are "trying to negotiate with the Obama campaign and the presidential debate commission" to change next Thursday's planned vice presidential debate into a McCain-Obama affair. The VP debate would be postponed to another date.
"That is what they are proposing," Bash reported. "[McCain officials] understand very well that both the Obama campaign and the debate commission have no intention of delaying Friday's debate, but...if there is no bailout deal by Friday, McCain has no plan to go to debate."
YouTube of CNN on the McCain desire to change the VP debate. You can speculate yourself on the true motivation. Especially now in hindsight it becomes interesting.
Did McCain lose the election because he decided to suspend his campaign during the financial crisis?
I've heard several television political bobble heads say so....but I think McCain would have lost regardless. More young people and minorities were planning to vote than ever in history, the economy under a Republican administration were a mess and we are butt deep in an unpopular war. I voted for McCain because I vote Republican....but I never went into the election thinking he was going to win regardless of what he did or did not do.

I think that, along with other things, helped in his defeat but Palin, once people got to FINALLY know her, was the nail in the coffin.
I do believe the Republicans who are really in control knew any repub candidate would lose and chose the most likely combo...McSame/DivaDope....like cleaning out the fridge, throw out the old left-overs in hopes that you'll have something better in the future.
