I'm hoping and praying that President Obama will be a man of his word and fix our economy, create jobs, improve health care, and improve our public schools as he's been DESPERATELY promising.

I hope so too. Anymore, a politician that puts the best interest of the nation above his cronies is a rare thing....let's hope Obama will break that trend.

I'm not sure I want Obama (or any other politician) to even BE ABLE to do these things. The reason is that, for them to have this ability, they'd have to have even more CONTROL over these areas.

You got a point there. But realistically Obama will be long gone and out of office before any of his policies can take affect. But I think that he's trying to find an immediate solution to our failing economy so that more people can stay in their homes and keep their jobs.

More control?? I think that it would be rather self-evident that it was the decided lack of control that has lead us down this particular garden path.

Government IS THE PROBLEM! They promoted the CRA to make loans to people who could not afford them and, more importantly, kept interest rates too low to avoid the damage from the recession resulting from the Tech/Telecom and 9/11.

Government is taking over the economy as we speak. Their attempts at making things better have made things worse. Not only that, but they have burned Trillions of Dollars of OUR money in the process. Think about it: they basically control Citigroup. Bank of America is, literally, Bank OF AMERICA now. The common shareholders of these companies are basically going to get wiped out as the Government has preferred shares. They control much of the mortgage industry and are gaining more control of Autos. They want more control of Healthcare as well.

Even if a private citizen is fiscally responsible, the Government is lowering that person's wealth by creating inflation and printing money.

If you think central planned economies are great, move to Cuba!

With that said, do you think that our economy will worsen as a result of all of this bailout money given to banks?

Fair enough, but look at how he plans on doing this. It MAY help in the short term, but WILL CERTAINLY hurt long term. It will raise our deficit, debt and devalue the dollar.

Listen to these clips that review this issue very thoroughly in about 23 minutes (total). The person giving the commentary has been dead on since 2002.

It may help somewhat, but the money came at a cost. We (as a nation) are broke, with $10.6 Trillion of debt. Add in the debt of Fannie/Freddie and other commitments, and the debt is easily $ 15 Trillion.

The goal of the TARP (bank bailout) was to stabilize the financial system and it seems to have done that. However, lending has not increased that much, but forcing banks to lend is not wise. They will lend if loaning will help them make money.

In the long run, I think this will be bad. I've listened to those clips many times and recommend that you do so as well.
