Baloney. His words can only be misconstrued by those who want to be offended. We talk to old people all the time, and we interpret their words in context just fine.
The silliness here is the people who refuse to look at the 60s-era refrain that he started from, and pay attention to the way that he
updated it.
Lowery has earned the right to talk about race any way he wants to, and it's presumptuous of anyone to take offense at that. He's given his entire life to that cause, when people around him were being killed for doing that. He can talk about unity and peace and understanding like a hippy if he wants to.
Those who were offended are the ones with the problem.
