His 60's rantings have about the same current cultural validity and similar cringe inducing effect as watching Al Jolsen sing in blackface.

We finally elected a black man, and it was only because of a perfect storm: a great candidate against a very weak GOP candidate with an economic meltdown underway. If that storm hadn't happened, no black president.

But talking about racial equality is so old school. Right.

The problem isn't talking about racial inequality. The problem is the outdated, misconstrued words that Lowry used.

Baloney. His words can only be misconstrued by those who want to be offended. We talk to old people all the time, and we interpret their words in context just fine.

The silliness here is the people who refuse to look at the 60s-era refrain that he started from, and pay attention to the way that he updated it.

Lowery has earned the right to talk about race any way he wants to, and it's presumptuous of anyone to take offense at that. He's given his entire life to that cause, when people around him were being killed for doing that. He can talk about unity and peace and understanding like a hippy if he wants to.

Those who were offended are the ones with the problem.

Now, I gotta tell ya...acording to the christians in here it was Obama's inauguration and he could have all the reverends and preaching and prayers he wanted so ANYTHING they said was A-Okay, they supported it 100% so I hope they don't backpedal now....ooops, think I'm too late with that...
