It's not CNN's numbers.

The numbers are from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
CNN is just reporting them - just as is MSNBC and FOX News.

No, you are incorrect. It is NET JOBS LOST. That is why people realize that they are cooking the books. Unfortunately, most people don't realize and take at face value wht the media says. Please read the linked explanation posted previously to see the data.

How stupid do you think we are? Of course it's a net number. If it were just a raw number, why would it not equally highlight the number of jobs created?

Just b/c we oppose Obama, it doesn't mean we are morons.

Of course it does, you can't possibly be a free thinker and have a mind of your own in this country anymore...lol. If you do, somebody will probably report you for it.

Marysally, List123 -

I stand corrected.
Different statistics. Different sources of the data.

"The payroll figures — jobs lost — comes from a Labor Department survey of employers. The unemployment rate is measured through a separate survey of households — asking people whether they have a job, whether they want a job and whether they searched for a job (among other things). If people drop out of the labor force, the unemployment rate can decline because fewer people would be considered jobless."

More Jobs Lost. Unemployment Down. What Gives? - Econwatch - CBS News

A point for both of you.

Thanks for the link, which highlights my point about the BLS cooking the books. They basically take people out of the labor force, even though the people removed from the labor force are just an unemployed as those they count. The size of our labor force is growing, so we need a modest monthly increase in jobs just to maintain the same unemployment rate.

If there is a net decrease in the number of jobs (as we saw in July 2009), either one of two things will happen: 1. unemployment increases or
2. unemployment stays the same or decreases thanks to the Government fudging the numbers.

The true unemployment number, referred to as U6 by BLS, is in the 16-17% range. This data can be found on their website.

It's not cooking the books.
The statistic is legit.
It simply represents those ACTIVELY looking for a job - not those unemployed but no longer looking.

The stimulus plan is a farce.

Obama and his Czars have gone too far.

I'm lucky. I'm old enough that I will just die. Before the Democrat's "plan" to make everything rosy comes into effect.

Young people voted for this guy because he was good looking.

They will realize that they were hoodwinked when they are about 30.

You can't have freedom for free. And you can't have socialism without higher taxes.

I know folks on the left want socialism. They are raising their kids this way. This is unfortunate, because American children will no longer know what it's like to be free.
