From Dan Quayle I guess... it was the end of a long, long day and I misread the post date. Genuinely Sorry about that.

The Legacy of George W. Bush Jr. from 2001 to 2008

Intelligence failure leading up to 9/11

After initial success in defeating the Taliban and cornering Osama Bin Laden in Tora Bora, a failure by senior Bush Adminstration officials to supply additional troops to support U.S. armed forces special operators and CIA special operators. Bin Laden escapes in the tribal lands of Pakistan where he remains to this day.

False intelligence and lies leading up the War in Iraq.

Declares "Mission Accomplished" in 2003 aboard an aircraft carrer another lie. Ironically as I type this I'm watchking this the last combat troops are leaving Iraq over 7 years after this statement.

A failure to maintain focus in Afghanstan in terms of troops and strategy leads Taliban resurgence. Bush Jr. basically kicked this problem down the curb to President Obama.

A totally inadequate response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Bush Jr. flew over New Orleans at 30,000 feet in Air Force One as people were dying due to lack of food, water and medical supples. Remember "You're Doing A Good Job Brownie".

A general lowering of American prestige and admiration around the world due to policies of George W. Bush Jr.

The exposure of Valerie Plume as a CIA operative, by Scooter Libby and others in Dick Cheneys staff because her husband exposed how the Bush used false intelligence regarding yellow cake uranium in the Sudan to convince the world that a war in Iraq was justified. Libby is then given a full pardon by President Bush.

A general failure to do anyting long term to do anything to resolve of illegal immigration or improve border security. This is another issue Bush Jr. basically kicked down the curb.

A lack spending on national infrastructure. The symptom of this is the collapse of the IH-35 bridge in Minneapolis.

Due to lack government regulation of the derivatives markets there is a meltodwon in mortgage backed securities leading into the biggest economic downturn since the great depression. Leading to an $800 billion bailout of the nations largest financial institutions.

A massive budget deficit due cutting taxes while conducting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and signficantly increasing federal spending on other areas.

I can't believe people are still using the Carter/Obama analogy. Carter was in office 30 years ago. A lot has changed since then.

-The economy is global.

-Generations of children have been brought up in a "liberal" educational environment.

-The gap between rich and poor is much larger (the list goes on and on).

What was the Dow Jones worth when Carter was around? 900 points?

Now let's look at what hasn't changed:

-Republicans continue to try to garner votes with scare tactics (Communism in the old days, Muslims today)

-Republicans continue to want to persecute certain groups (Former Dems turned Republican during the Civil Rights Era, Arizona's immigration law as written)

-Republicans continue to claim they are the party of smaller government, yet somehow every time a Republican president leaves office, we are in a lot of debt

-Republicans continue to be by and large the party of whites while the nation becomes increasingly less white

Enough said.

Republican presidential candidates have based their victories on the “Southern Strategy” since Nixon ran for office in 1968. The “Southern Strategy” is basically predicated on using race, moral issues, and religion to lock up votes in the South. Generally speaking if they can win the Midwest they have a chance to win the White House. The problem is recently the Republicans have swung so hard to the right that outside the South and Southwest their strength has become questionable.

Texas is the key state for Republicans. There is no way that the Republicans can will a presidential election without Texas. However, Texas has seen an increase in Latino voters and also an influx of transplants from just about everywhere else. It’s going to be interesting to see how issues like immigration and the general intolerance of the Republican Party toward non-white Americans will play out. Either way but 2016 or 2020 Texas is liable to be a swing state. If that happens the Republicans will either have to seriously change their platform and come closer to the political center or cease to be a party of national prominence.

Wow, you got EVERYTHING wrong! Just to correct a few:

Bush inherited the same intelligence that the Clinton administration used. With a twist... Clinton ordered the CIA to not obtain information from informants who had a felony record. Which means that the information sources virtually dried up.

Ridiculous to blame Bush on the IH-35 bridge... that is a state issue.

Cutting taxes does not cause a debt; overspending does.

Inaccurate, yes (thanks largely to the previous administration); "lies," no.
In 2004, the Senate Intelligence Committee unanimously approved a report acknowledging that it "did not find any evidence that administration officials attempted to coerce, influence or pressure analysts to change their judgments."

The following year, the bipartisan Robb-Silberman report similarly found "no indication that the intelligence community distorted the evidence regarding WMD."

It is largely up to the mayor and governor of a state to assist when a disaster occurs. Bush offered to send in aid 24 hours before hurricane Katrina made landfall. The dumb governor did not accept.
Even with that big blunder, the response to Katrina was by far the largest- and fastest- rescue effort in U.S. history, with nearly 100,000 emergency personnel arriving on the scene within 3 days of the storm's landfall.

Dozens of National Guard and Coast Guard helicopters flew rescue operations that first day, some just 2 hours after Katrina hit the coast. Hoistless Army helicopters improvised rescues, hovering on rooftops to pick up survivors. On the ground, guardsmen had to chop their way through, moving trees and recreating roadways. By the end of the week, 50,000 National Guard troops in the Gulf Coast region had saved 17,000 people and 4,000 Coast Guard personnel saved more than 33,000.

With the help of the anti-Bush media. Considering how many wars other countries have started (and which the U.S. helped end), they have a lot of nerve criticizing!

She was not covert when she was exposed. IIRC, it was Great Britain intelligence which made the yellow cake uranium claim. Also, don't forget that ricin, a very dangerous WMD, was found in Great Britain and it was traced back to Iraq.

That one I agree on. But what is Obama doing about it?

Palin is quite a longshot for the GOP nomination in 2012.

Romney is the frontrunner. He fits the profile of who the GOP selects.
