Don't presume that I am british by the way.

If you look at Europe : Germany, France, Norway, Holland : their economies are superb.

America? Remove California and the State of New York, and the US economy is commensurate with a middle level performing European economy.
California has the 6th best economy in the world - remove it from the US economic statistics and Americas economy suddenly becomes a lot poorer.
Remove New York and the picture gets worse.

Now we're getting somewhere.

I don't presume that you are British. I've known some Brits and some Italians. I found them to be genuinely fun and upstanding people.

I guess I don't understand this conversation.

Are you saying that the continent you live on is better than the continent we live on?

Are you suggesting that our government should model itself on your experience? Thus the world would be a better place?

I think that Europe is doing great. It is wonderful, and an example to the rest of the world. You know .... in terms of civility, education, ambition and trustworthiness.

Our country is young. Many of us are living a fantasy life. A life of freedom beyond belief. That is the dream. And all Americans are able to participate in the opportunity available here. The opportunity to raise their children in a happy home. And so on.

I am not in any way knocking Europe. And I find it funny that you would look down your nose at a society that is still evolving. A society that has done great things.

We trust you. Please trust us.

My hubby has traveled to different countries and he says we are so much better than any other country. Why do you think people are clamoring to come here to live? The average person here lives like royalty do in other countries. Have you seen the average house in Europe? Just a closet compared to our homes. Watch HGTV sometime to see what Europeans have to pay for a tiny home. I don't think Americans would put up with it.

Look around. Throughout history you will see that the bigger a govt is the poorer it's people are and the weaker it's military is. The smaller a govt is the wealthier it's people are and the stronger it's military.

This is beacuse socialism violates the laws of economics and human nature. It interferes in the private dealings of individuals.

And the United States is not special. It aint gonna work here either.

And under socialism you still have rich and poor. You still have crime. You still have all the same problems it claims to eradicate.
Then what are you doing to abolish all this socialism going on in our country, such as Social Security and Medicare? Or would you prefer to think of it a MEDISCARE!?

I suppose if you could compliment Americas threshold for pain/suffering/disappointment/humiliation... Or you could just accept that Americans are a bunch of complacent babies that'll never do anything, ever.

europeans also make more money than we do....
I lived overseas myself.. and there certainly are places better than the US...
The draw the US has is that it is the largest market in the world.. where you can roll up here and start a business or get an education...
that doesn't mean you cant do those things in other countries... but our society is all about the mighty dollar... and people rolling up here want a piece of the pie...
European countries have Mass immigration much more than the United states.. per capita.. Actually Canada has much more immigration than the US does...
I don't know how you figure your point of view... seems you should stop listening to what your hubby says and find out for yourself before you call that opinion your own...

Most of you people are just clueless jack@ss liberals or the result of public education. Why will it not work in America? Because America is the bright shining city on a hill. One where even a no talent hack like Mr. West can become a millionaire whilst serving as a faux role model for inner city youth. Just what we need! We have and always will be based on a free enterprise system aka capitalism. Do you know why all the *itching and moaning comes from the "poor"? They are still on a plantation in their minds. Waiting for the "Master" aka Uncle Sam to send a check to pay for everything. Yes, including that bling mouth grill and rims. Because they don't have money, jobs, education or a general proper upbringing. Don't even get me started. Pull your damn pants up, learn to speak and get a clue.

If one looks like a gang member and/or drug dealer & acts like a gang member/drug dealer, don't get all upset when you are treated like one. Should one CHOOSE to have a baby @ 15, don't get offended when you are treated as a fallen woman. When living in public housing, it should be illegal to own a car. An Escalade should not be in their future. Don't heap your problems at the feet of "them mexicans"! They will be 2nd generation millionaires, doctors and lawyers. Your people have been in this country for 200 years and you are still in public housing and on welfare.

How's all that "Hope & Change" working out for you? The lower class and this fictional "middle class" have been destroyed by the policies of the Barry White House. And if you believe for one moment it is over, Katie bar the door. Wait for the Fed Funds Rate to hit 20% then let's talk unemployment. Yet, again why we should go back to the system of our Founders. Yes, the one that allowed only about 2% of the population to actually vote for President. That someone would even whisper pro socialism ideas in the halls of our Congress proves that far to many of the wrong people are having children.

Communism or socialism won't work because of the sheer land mass that was opened for homesteading--the common folk actually got land, and avoided those messy situations in points further south where the elite still own 85% of the land.

Unfortunately, fascism is an uncomfortably close definition to what we have in America today. (No, Glen Beck is not my hero). The changes that Bush jr and our congress wrought after 9.11 have moved my country too close to the post-WWI situation in Germany. Check out the dictionary definition of fascism and evaluate for yourself.

I love these people who spout how socialist ideas are so bad. I'll be glad to accept your social security checks, medi-care payments, federal college grants. etc. Just forward those checks to me if you don't want them. Yep, these are all all elements of socialism that we would never have had if the Republicans had the power in the 1940's when SSI was granted and in the 1960's when LBJ gave us Medi-care.
