I disagree with the statement that Obama can't win. I admit that at this point in his term, it appears to be an uphill climb. But what if the markets go up, unemployment goes down, and there isn't a terror attack in the U.S. between now and 2012. Should those three things occur, his approval numbers will rebound and he will be a formidable candidate in the next election regardless of healthcare. Should one or two of those three things not occur, I think that candidates form other parties (specifically Republican and Independents) will have a real chance at the White House. Should Obama not get the nomination, I think Hillary Clinton offers the best chance to win but it remains to be seen if she would actually run. At this point, I can't see anyone else in the Democratic party beating Mitt Romney.

Personally, I think it's far too early to say definitively either way. Did anyone predict that Obama would have won way back in 2006 (one year into W's second term)?

I am anything but an Obama supporter but I agree with you: 2006, who would have thought he would go anywhere? The big difference now, people do know him a little better.

Mitt Romney is a Mormon. If not for this, I'd think Romney would have a shot.

If an African-American can win then a Mormon certainly has a shot. They key there is whether the Republican base will support a Mormon.

I think they would, the problem is more than just the Mormon issue, but that is number one: he is boring, arrogant and more of a RINO on many things. I just don't see him getting the support from the party or the voters.

Oabma would ahve to dropout likie Johnson did in the 60's. They would never have run Carter if it wouldn't have meant admitting a failed presidency by not nominating him.Carter was in a evry similar circumstnces as Obama but late in his prediency foreign policy events really did him in.The iranians took adavnatge of his weak poosition domestically. They basically thumbed their noses at him just be cause the could knowing he did have support to do anything about it.Enemies always take adavnatge of such things .
