Hey everyone, I started a new thread listing new battleground state for the 2012 election. So far in my opinion:
-Georgia
-Texas
Feel free to add more states.
Texas has always been a weird state.
It is more like a mini US with The big cities being th Liberal NE and West Coast and the areas between being the more conservative heartland.
I think Texas is becoming less and less republican, while at the same time maintaining some conservative aspects rather strongly.
Georgia has been seeing seeing a lot of influx of liberals, and Black people who tend to vote democrat.
I will say this. If the republicans fail to retain Texas and Georgia (two of the biggest reliably republican states) then they are done in presidential politics for a while. They can forget all that Florida/Ohio nonsense. New battlegrounds are emerging
Georgia won't turn blue for awhile. It has conservative influences from bordering states (South Carolina, Alabama, Florida to a lesser extent). Most of the liberal influence is confined to the city of Atlanta, and even with an influx of folks from the north with liberal leanings, the numbers aren't there yet to take over the whole state.
yeah, it is not there yet, but like I was saying, if they lost it, then they will be screwed.
The GOP needs new direction. If the Dems were not such idiots they would be such a powerful party.
The GOP needs to abandon the social issues. that ship has sailed.
They need to focus on new ways to boost the economy. Tax cuts alone as a platform was soooo 30 Years ago. They also need to be stronger on illegal immigration.
The Dems won NC and Virginia, lets see if they can hold on to them.
I don't think they will get Indiana again in teh next election, but if the dems win the elections they will get Missouri this time.
with McCain not on the ticket, AZ would be in play, but I think Obama spoiled his chances there. McCain won Phoenix by such a large margin.
In Texas, Obama won DAllas by a sizable number of votes but then lost the other big city in the metro by a sizable number of votes. If the dems want to in Texas they are gonna have to spend more time in FW and the Houston suburbs
For the same reason Georgia may evenually turn blue, we may eventually see Pennsylvania turn red.
PA has had an influx of people from red states out west, like Texas and Oklahoma, due to marcellus shale drilling. PA has flirted with going red in the past and the new demographic could push them in the Republican column.

I doubt it will be pushed that far. Pennsylvania is indeed middle america between Pitts and Philly, but a good campaign in the two cities can keep the state democratic.
Anyone that pays attention to 2008 as a guideline is out of wack..2008 was an unusual year, most realize that. Not even 2016 unless the state is taken over by Californians, even then I doubt it..

People are going to be surprised. The Demographics in Texas are changing. The 2010 census results should be interesting. First, Texas is close to becoming a state where Black Americans, Asian Americans and Latino Americans outnumber White Americans. Second there really hasn't been a national election where all the new transplants that have arrived have been factored in.
It may not happen by 2012. But by 2020 Texas is probably going to turn into a swing state. When that happens it will force the Republican Party to revisit its Southern Strategy which it has used in every presidential election since 1968.

Are you saying only latinos should vote Democrat? What makes you think all latinos are automatically going to vote Democrat? This one isn't

Texas is already a minority-majority state, has been for a few years now. 2008 was a reasonable representation of transplant populations not only in Texas, but nationwide. Since the housing bubble burst we probably will not see any large population shifts like we did in the several decades before 2007. The best hope for Texas turning blue is amnesty for illegal aliens, but even then, Hispanics in Texas tend to vote stronger for the GOP than the national average.

of course you realize it is a minority state now. You are lumping several nationalities and races into one and yes, if you consider all those people it is a minourity state. Do you think all minorities vote Democrat or they will not change or even, they all vote?
