romney would be the best bet for the general election. he is a moderate republican and not some idealogue.

mormon issue will be big within his party, and romney care will be a big problem. i dont see how he wins the primary though, with what, half of the gop defining themselves as tea party members.

That is basically the GOP's problem right there in a nutshell. The only ones that are electable nationally aren't able to make it past a GOP Primary.

Yes, I have. He is slightly taller than the average height, fit, young looking, well spoken and projects power. Yes, he is also of mixed race but lets not pretend he is selling an image in addition to his political opinions. Mitch Daniels doesn't possess many of those intangibles and that will hurt him in the eyes of the mob.[/quote]

maybe our Pres looks like he projects power, but when you listen to what he has to say that soon disappears. I have heard the remarks about Mitch Daniels, I just hope we can get over judging our candidates by looks.

Only Mitch Daniels, he has good records as fiscal conservative

Mitch Daniels has called for a truce on social issues. That is not going to get hin very far in a GOP Primary.

Smash, I don't think you really understand how many Republicans feel. You are basing way too much on the outspoken untra religious right. If you don't think he will play well, who do you think will?

To the base?

Gingrich, Palin, Huckabee, Santorum, Barbour, Pawlenty

That is the GOP's problem, the base has gone so far to the right, so extreme that the candidates they are going to come up with are completely unelectable in a General Election.

I think Hunstman, Daniels and Romney (in that order) are the most electable on a national stage, winning a Primary is another story.

The Ron Paul tea party ideals have been co-opted by the Michelle Bachmann, Jim Demint (who are both very popular with the tea party) fire breathing social conservative extremism.
