Americans' favorable ratings of the Democratic and Republican parties are near record lows for each. The current 36% favorable score for the Republican Party is five percentage points above the low established in December 1998 as the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach President Clinton. The Democratic Party's 43% is two points higher than its record low measured in March.

Gallup's generic polling shows the number of voters saying that they would vote for Republicans rising three points from last week, while the number saying they will vote for Democrats dropped four points. The 49%-43% lead for the Republicans is the largest that the pollster has ever recorded for the party. Moreover, Democratic enthusiasm for voting this fall fell a point, while enthusiasm among Republicans stayed about fifteen points higher.

So? I have no doubt the party out of power, in this case the Republicans, are more enthusiastic...it's the midterms after all.

However, for all the bluster and boasting, we find the the Republican party approval rating is actually less than that of the Democrats...and I think that's notable.

regardless of this poll or any other, it would be a shocker if the Republicans didn't sweep in November. Of course anything can happen between now and then. Remember polls, regardless of who is taking them can be presented in a way that will get a picture that the pollster wants to get.
