Not sure if this is the right place for this but seems more appropriate than the beauty forum.

I've noticed that on a lot of actresses, the lipstick doesn't cover their lips. A sort of 'these are my lips-this is what I want my lips to be'.

I think it looks rather stupid but apparently I'm missing something. Is this for a reason?

I have no idea what you mean. Can you post a picture to show an example?

See if you can Google them. If you see what fits the description of your OP then right click on the image and then click "copy".

One should be enough--just to get an idea of what you mean.

IMO, almost anything's better than the Kathie Lee Gifford sticky-lip look.

A lot of women, in general, do this

Women who have thin upper lips or lips that don't have the right shape tend to do this a lot. Redraw the lip line to something more pleasing and then fill in with lipstick. Usually looks great in pictures or from a distance but can be disconcerting up close and personal.
My lips are uneven, so on the rare occasion I wear lipstick I will try to even them out a bit by drawing a slightly higher curve on one side, outside my natural lip line.

Slightly OT, speaking of lipstick, how do the actresses keep theirs on during kissing or eating scenes. I look closely after such scenes (especially kissing), and the lipstick stays - no smears, nothing.
