Is it strange that British actors and actresses seem to have a greater following from Americans than the ones from Canada? I mean, have you ever heard someone comment that Ellen Page is "so Canadian" or "has that cute Canadian accent"?
I suspect many Americans forget or don't realize many of these actors and actresses are Canadian and presume they're "American" unless research demonstrates otherwise. Not to mention, British actors and actresses typically have accents many Americans seem to admire/fawn over.

I also watch a show on Hulu called Little Mosque on the Prairie (which I know given the typical CD poster, I will get flack for) and there are a few awesome Canadian actors on there, including Carlo Rota, who is an English-Canadian actor that people might recognize for his roles on Breaking Bad and 24.
