Ok, I see a man in drag, dressed in a dress, singing a song. Did I miss something spectacular or what? I had seen something a few days ago referring to him as being the bearded lady - clearly it's a man in drag. I have heard better and worse voices. I'm truly not all that impressed.

He is the first truly UNIQUE person I have seen in a long time. He came up with this stellar gimmick and actually PULLED IT OFF in the mainstream. He is innovative and very brilliant. And he absolutely deserved the award. If you do some searches of him on youtube.com you will see that he paid his dues playing in skanky gay bars for a long time to hone his craft and develop his persona. I love the way he "milks" the whole thing by saying he did it because "he wants to foster tolerance and acceptance" ha ha ha I love that. He did it for the money and nobody can convince me otherwise.
He took a concept that is otherwise rather repulsive to the mainstream (drag queens), and did a fantastic job of it. I applaud the guy! Nobody else since Rupaul has gained such widespread popularity and acceptance being a total freak. It's spectacular and yes, he has a good voice as long as the song is in his range.
Eurovision isnt exactly what I call "mainstream" though. It used to be a legit competition but now nations put out joke acts and voting is political.
Perhaps not all the songs but the participants are quite "mainstream" in their countries aiming for the mainstream audience.
