In 2005 I drove 1300 miles on a round trip to go see the fiftieth anniversary showing of Giant. It was finished in 1955, but not released until 1956 by which time James Dean had died.
It was an outdoor showing in Marfa, TX, where the movie was largely shot.
It was a wonderful occasion!
Did you think James Dean and Rock Hudson were good in it? I didn't.
Hundreds upon hundreds. I'm 29 and for the vast majority of my life I've preferred pre 1972 films. There are a handful of 'newer' films I enjoy, but they're few and far between.
Im 52 and I love anything Hitchcock but did not like him personally after finding out what he did to tippy hedren and Im wondering if he ever touched Grace Kelly like that . I know back then ladies did not have very much choice but today tippy would be a rich woman .
I saw JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH the other day - 1959
Excellent movie!
those 50'60's sci-fi/fantasy movies were the best. My fav is jason and the argonauts and the time machine, and mysterious island and of course forbidden planet.

What a blast-I would love to check Marfa out someday.
