For me overall, it was c. 2011. Late 2011 was definitely garbage that carried on to 2012, but for most of the year, 2011 was still worth enjoying things. In 2012, I had a strong feeling that people got even more unfriendlier and not only that, but the music and culture became crappier than ever before. A PRIME example of the crappiest thing that came out in 2012 was "Hot Problems" by Double Take. In addition to that, 2012 was also the year where IMO Miley Cyrus became creepy and cut her hair short (back in 2007 and 2008 I didn't think she was that creepy) and it was also the year where things got very foul and things that got old very quick (eg. Gagnam Style). I also found hip tattoos (very disgusting, no offense to anyone who has one) to become popular in 2012.

Instantly, 2012 was the darkest year of my life. I never found that much positives about that year.

You must be about 30 years younger than me 'cause for me I'd say around 1980. I don't like much of the music after that. I blame MTV for shifting the focus from musical talent to visual performance.

1993 was the last year I felt there was any effort made towards innovation, substance, or quality in the movies/music/tv industries.

There have been some occasional good things, but overall, it is derivative (or total rip-off), over-produced, or too heavily relying on special effects.

I was born in 1995 and I like stuff from the 60s (not the hippie stuff), so there hasn't really been a year that I truly enjoyed. Maybe 2005 because TVLand still showed nothing but shows from the 50s-70s, and we still had an oldies station (now it's a greatest hits station that plays music mostly from 75-89).

2012 is a close runner up, though. I went to the Beach Boys 50th anniversary concert and I had a blast! That was the only thing that was really good about 2012, but that was huge for me. They're by far my favorite band and it was like a dream come true when they announced that they were going on tour, as well as making a new album. They still sounded great and I love their new songs. Can't wait for Brian Wilson's new album later this year or early next year.

What's sad, though is that 2012 will probably be the last year that I really enjoy.

Depends on the topic, really. Entertainment I feel hasn't been enjoyable to me since about 1988, for example.

Same here for entertainment: 1988. Also, early 90s.
Been downhill since. Dang near everything is remakes or junk.

It's hard to say because I always make a point to seek out something alternative or that's not mainstream.
I really hated when Britney/Backstreet and that stuff came out. I loved the 90's, the alternative but when the Britney type stuff took over that sucked, also because my local alternative station changed format and I could no longer get anything but the processed pop the media shoved in my face. Late 1998 I lost my access to that music. However, I still loved music but it was hard because in 1999 it was so hard for me to get to it because of where I lived. I also dated a guy in 1998ish time who I thought liked alt but fell into that "TRL" MTV Backstreet/Britney crap and it seemed like I couldn't get away from that type of music and I was doomed to lose the stuff I really loved.

In 2000 I got a hold of Napster and I it helped a lot. I loved 2000's music though (my chosen genre though) and I got out more and moved away so I was able to find more stuff. I can't stay that I really stopped ever enjoying things, but there's been times where I've felt dry spells. I feel like the past couple years though, the alt and modern rock charts have lacked. Where I used to get into what was on them, lately it's become lackluster and too soft and mainstream.

If popular culture is determining how much you enjoy entire years, maybe you're focussing on it too much...

1999 was my year. Financials were outstanding enough to spend most of it relaxing in New Mexico. Soaked away the stress at my favorite spas, Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe and Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs. Absolutely, one of the best! This year has been pretty decent, but I am now on the East Coast so my options for hot springs and hot tubbing isn't as great. A couple of nude Korean styled bathhouses aren't what I would deem relaxation. Might be time for a visit back to the Land of Enchantment......
