The casinos have come up with a simple way to stop card counting - there are no more single deck blackjack tables.
Not so, in Nevada they are still common. The problem is that rules and conditions in these games are usually terrible. The worst, most intolerable, and unfortunately, most common rule, is paying 6-5 for blackjacks instead of the traditional 3-2. This adds an additional 1.39% to the house advantage, a huge margin, and makes these games unbeatable for even the most skilled card counter. No savvy player will ever play even a single hand at one of these games. If you must play, much better to do so at a 6 or 8 deck shoe that pays 3-2 than at one of those 6-5 SD games.

And, in single-deck Blackjack games, they shuffle after every deal. No way to card count.
If you know how to play, Craps has some of the best odds in the house. It also is the most social, fun game on the floor. Get a good rockin' table and you'll have a ball.

The problem with Craps is your dependency on the skill of others at the table. As I pointed out in my book on the subject, YOUR chances of winning a hand are directly related to what the players ahead of you decide to do.
Example:
Dealer shows a 5
You have 14
You should STAND.
Instead, you take a hit, get a 9 and bust.
Next card out to the dealer is a 4. You discover that now gives the dealer 19 and everyone else at the tables loses because you were too stupid not to stand pat.
As I've repeatedly stated - the ONLY game that truly gives you a chance is live poker. It's your skills against the others and not the house.

Um, craps is a dice game, not a card game. You did get that right in your book, didn't you?

The first time I played craps was at a company Christmas party with chips, not real money. I know not losing actual funds affected my courage, because I usually bet conservatively, but I had fantastic luck rolling and our table did very well overall. Lots of cheering and excitement, you are right. I turned $500 in chips into $11k, and a few people were joking about heading to Vegas. Of course, when we finally did go my luck was nowhere as good!
