If it's one of those upscale movie houses that offers fresher food - and even sometimes serves it at your seat - I wouldn't mind paying a premium for that experience. Beyond that, I still prefer to eat before or after the show.

for the $10 it costs for a soda and popcorn I can go and get an entire chinese/hibachi buffet afterwards... that's the way I usually look at it... either that or all you can eat crab legs at the local casino for 5 bucks more. I usually time the movies to be on crab leg night.

I do like the wine in empty soda bottles idea.

I thought I would like the seat service, but found instead that they actually deliver the food during the movie...and I hate missing anything! At the Alamo Drafthouse in San Antonio they billed us during the movie!

I've been lucky that the brand used by the chain I frequent look good and there have been times I've had to wait longer because they aren't ready yet! I think I prefer soft, or even soggy buns as opposed to hard or toasted!

I prefer the chain CineBistro for this reason. They tell you to arrive well in advance of the movie to allow time to order and deliver food. They also settle up your tab during that time. Once the movie starts, they won't come to your seat anymore. The drawback to this is you have dishes at your seat for the length of the movie, but you simply swivel your table away from you, and it's not really in the way.

We have a CineMark Bistro...I like going because you get assigned seating, so you don't have to wait in line!
But ours is newer and this happened; my friend ordered a Hot Dog and they weren't ready (you order at the counter like regular movies paying in advance, but if your food isn't ready then they will bring it to and therefore interrupt the movie) and then this other waiter kept walking around trying to find the person who had ordered 4 pizzas...he never did find them and wound up giving them to the person who had the seat that was on the receipt! Again interrupting! But they're getting better!

I like this theater for the assigned seating, but they only have 6 screens and not enough digital/regular movies! I can't see 3D!

I think CineMark Bistro and CineBistro are different chains. Definitely no ordering at a counter, and no hot dogs. More like sea bass and ribeye. And I believe most of their locations do have some 3D, though similarly limited number of screens.

What's the thing about eating while watching a movie?

Where did this odd habit come from?

It seems like shoving garbage into your mouth would be a major distraction and devalue the whole experience.

I usually buy something. I rarely buy everything. My favorite thing to get at the movies is a pretzel with nacho cheese, but not all theaters offer it. My typical habit is to buy my drink and sneak in the food. Most of the theaters I frequent don`t carry the pretzel with cheese, so what I usually do is buy a medium drink and sneak in a small bag of popcorn I bought at the gas station. Its not warm, but it usually tastes better. The last 2-3 times I bought popcorn at the movies, I regretted it. Gross and stale. For candy I like to get chocolate-covered raisins or Reese`s pieces. I will usually get a box of those at Walmart or Target...or the gas station. Biggest rule of thumb is: they are least likely to check your bag if they see you buy something. And honestly, if you absolutely can`t afford a snack at the movies, you probably can`t really afford to see a movie, either. I sneak in some things to keep costs down if I am getting a couple of snacks. I mean... 1.00 box of chocolate raisins at Target or a 3.50 box at the movies, its just sensible.

What a strange idea of suing because someone is charging too much. It's not like a candy bar is essential to life.

I don't buy snacks at theaters, mainly because of the prices. I'm guessing that popcorn costs almost nothing, and if it were cheap, I'd buy it. However, the things that I sneak in are usually things that the concession stand doesn't have. I mean, pretty much the equivalent of meals. Not junk food.
