That's why I stopped going to movies like 15/20 years ago. I just wait until it's on cable.

If a matinee showing looks too crowded, I've been known to request headsets or earbuds, they do a great job of drowning out candy bag crinkling. They help too when the characters are mumbling their lines in Brit accents or it's a dialogue-intensive talky-talky Aaron Sorkin movie.

Here in California I cannot remember ever going to a theater and having some disrespectful jerk using a phone during the movie .
It's disrespectful because other people paid to see the movie ,not listen to some stupid phone call.
P.S. the regular theater is $12. for adults $8. for seniors, and $3. at the cheap theater, and every one behaves them self, how about that.

I don't pay extra for the 3D unless I have to - I don't find them worth the expense, although I still love to go to the show and watch the big screen.

But I guess I was lucky when I went to see 'The Martian' because the theater had few people in it, and the ones who were there - surprisingly, mostly young people - remained quiet.

I'm not shy about telling people to "hush up" in theaters, though, even if I have to yell it.

I don't go as often, but when I do, and 3D is available I opt for that when it involves mostly space or water or mountains.

They just built a Cineplex VIP theatre in Ottawa that I want to try out. I might wait for the James Bond that's coming soon. They have high back seats, a lounge with a bar, a food menu, service brought to your seat, and some other amenities. You have to be 19+ to be in the VIP area of the theatre. A basic ticket is $24.99 Canadian.

Sounds like a better idea to me than paying a king's ransom for a small box of popcorn and a gallon of cola, although they still offer those too.

They're opening one of these in another area of town (River Oaks Houston). Might be worth the 35 mile drive for me!

The best thing I ever did was invest in a home theater system for my home. Nothing nicer than watching a movie on a 100" screen in your very own home with awesome, mind blowing speakers and subs; sitting on your nice movie theater seats.

I wouldn't. I would rather watch the movie in the luxury of my own home.
