As for America's place in the world, during the 00s, it was the style to call America the "Modern Rome", for good or bad reasons. Today, thanks to our culture's strong macho streak, America will become the 21st century's Sparta, which took the macho ideal further than few, if any, other societies did. Sparta's leadership believed that hard toughness and ruthlessness was all that mattered in a man - seemingly without regard for any 'softer' traits that a civilization needs to survive and faded into irrelevance after only two centuries. Something to think about if you ask me.
Any comparison of modern day (fat, overfed) America to ancient Sparta is just laughable.
Yet Hollywood blackballed Mel Gibson for being "stupid and a drunk" (See Post 119---as if those were rare behaviors among Hollywood celebrities). No hypocrisy there.

Just who are the some that you are referring to? As long as he produces, directs or acts in profitable movies, that is t going to happen. Especially after a big score with American sniper. Heck even ultra liberal Tom Hanks is starring in of his movies.

I noticed that clip didn't include good old Sean Penn who should be included in that list of hypocrites. Hollywood is a cesspool of hypocrites. They often betray their so-called humanitarian beliefs over the big paycheck.

I'll say he's a hypocrite. And we're supposed to believe he "melted down " his considerable gun collection after he was kitty-whipped by Charlize Theron.

Agreed. It wouldn't be as bad if they stood behind their words and refused to make movies depicting gun violence but they do. If they really want to make a difference, just say no to making movies like that.
