When I say comic strip I mean the "Sunday Funnies" multiple panels - or even a single. Mine... "The far Side" -- Gary Larson.

I don't know much about current comic strips, but I have a special fondness for Pogo. My father had a large collection of Pogo books as well as a strip hand drawn and signed by Walt Kelly, all of which I inherited when he passed last November.

Larson's 'The Far Side'.

Many children of the Great 80's will recall it with much fondness.

Edit: Gary Larson seriously needs to know how many folks his work has touched. Imagine a group of guys, mid-teens, sitting silently in a grandmother's living room passing the little books around, chuckling and giggling every few minutes. I chuckle now just thinking of those books full of his strips. One of my favorites was just a silent image of a lion in the middle of the African plain, grass waving gently around him as he stands before a vending machine with pictures of zebras, antelopes and other wildlife in place of candy bars and chips.

I don't toss the word 'genius' around lightly. Gary Larson is a comedic genius, and I'd go out of his way to tell him so should I ever have the opportunity. The man is a national treasure.

Calvin & Hobbes, Cynicalman, and Cyanide & Happiness. Cynicalman is a local comic that ran in Detroit weeklies 20 years ago.

Ballard Street and Calvin and Hobbes are two of my favorites. (I went into labor a day early while reading Calvin and Hobbes. I was laughing so hard I think my son wanted to see what was so funny.)

B.C., Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbs were my three favorites. The Far Side was pretty good also. It's been a long while though since I've read the comics.
