I know that this is one of my nostalgic posts, but it still gives me a type of "hole" feeling. The old media of traditional TV and radio is dying and isn't going to comeback. I feel this even though I'm a younger person, it was still better when I was growing up as a kid, around my teenage and when I started my young adulthood is when it started to really show it's decline more. I just thought it was "granted" or didn't get to enjoy or experience a lot of it while it lasted. Something like that makes we wish I grew up when my parents or my grandparents were. It does make me kind of sad and I don't feel anything replacing the "void".
When my parents were growing up and also when I was a much younger kid, local TV/radio was still more smaller and had more local people. Now today, the media and any other traditional businesses are struggling, and let alone that is there are only 2-3 major mega-options dominating. I know that only traditional discount stores still around are Walmart and Target. Until the mid 90s, even our local TV affiliates were still owned locally and their product didn't struggle as much from an aesthetic or financial point.
But I guess I sound more like one of those older people who complain about stuff. But I still have the feeling of something being taken away from me forever or not getting to see an experience.
I'm kind of sad that more people even those who are my age can't see or understand it the same way.
I am a little bit lost at trying to comprehend of what you are trying to say....especially since I am one who has turned her back on TV rather completely.
I still get my paper newspaper every day, but that's about it. For music I really like Alexa, she's got my whole library on tap and easy to use. Plus she's good for some other stuff like trivia.

The OP mentions the old media and I am doing the old media....as I knew it growing up. That is, growing up overseas where everything was "canned". That is how I watch TV now, listen to music, on DVD, CD, tapes. It is all canned.
Sometimes I miss the days before cable when the networks had a lot of money to burn. Top notch anchors, reporters, journalists, columnists, too numerous to mention them all, Paul Harvey on the radio, Howard Cosell on ABC sports. Lots of great TV shows competing head to head, those Charlie Brown specials on CBS, and Wild Kingdom & Disney movies on NBC Sunday Nights. Mini series and afterschool TV specials, movies shown sometimes out of blue like the ABC wednesday night movie, or murder mystery such as Colombo on saturdays. Radio had great DJ's and incredible personalities, and the beginning of FM was so awesome in how much better the music sounded in stereo. And how much better cassette tapes were than 8 tracks or scratchy records.
By the 90s music was going way downhill, but I think TV entered another golden age in that decade with many great shows and the birth of animated shows like Simpsons and South Park. Not to mention Monk, Home Improvement, Roseanne & Star Trek franchise continuing, birth of Sopranos and Spongebob in '99. The best TV decades were the 70's and 90's.
No. I even helped 'kill' our local paper (used to have a blog that got more hits than the paper had sales). They've since gone online and have a token paper.
Wouldn't it be great if there were a switch box with A/V inputs but an HDMI output?
My "newest" (probably 4-5 years old) SHARP flat screen has 3 ports for HDMI but only one for A/V. So today, I have 2 HDMI switch boxes hooked into two of those ports AND THEN........
...........two A/V switch boxes hooked in parallel-series into that one TV A/V port.
Wouldn't it be great if I could use that 3rd HDMI port instead of the wiring nightmare I have to resort to.
TV and Radio died when you could download everything off the internet and things like Netflix and youtube was created where any moron could upload
