I first became aware of Abrams with LOST. It was a show that I loved and couldn't get enough of. So much so that I purchased the complete series on disc. Unfortunately I have not watched it lately (in years) because I know the stories by heart and there are no surprises for me anymore); next time I watch will just be an opportunity I suppose to catch little clues I missed along the way.
Anyhow. Since LOST, I have caught his Star Trek - which for me took a a relatively cerebral franchise and turned it into just another space shoot-em up. I hate it, and I hate the JJ-prise - just ugly.
As for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" I liked the actors and the chemistry between Daisy Ridley and
John Boyega, but other than that, the movie was just another Star Wars rehash... When are they going to stop telling the same story over and over again? Is this JJ's fault, probably not, but Star Wars is lost to me. I don't even remember if I saw the last movie or not - they all run together now in my mind.
all i know is that he was involved with the creation/writing of 3 of my all time favorite shows Lost, Fringe, and Person of Interest... if im not mistaken he also wrote the theme for Fringe (which means he gets all kinds of residual/royalties/publishing checks)

This. I mean, his Star Trek movies have a certain appeal, but they're no longer Star Trek-y so overall I'm not thrilled with what he did to them.

So, are you a JJ Fan?
Hack. The new Star Wars and Star Trek movies absolutely suck.
I would say he is hit or miss. I like M:I III overall, and The Force Awakens, and I think Super 8 is probably his best movie. But I don't the what he did with Star Trek.

To call him a hack is an insult to hacks. One man destroyed two of the best, longest running movie franchises ever. There are amateurs on YouTube who do a better job.
