Why? Because they like it. There may not be an easy reason why they like it, but they do. I'm not sure why you need to understand why people like something. They like it; you don't ... 'nuff said.

No brothers has nothing to do with anything, anime isn't some sort of a 'guy' thing.(Wonder Woman and Xena the princess warrior would like to have a word with you too) There is plenty of anime that appeals to, or is 'targeted' to women and girls.
You keep trying to pigeonhole anime as just a single type of genre, and it isn't, at all. It's like saying all video games are the same, or that all novels are the same whether it's a mystery, historical romance, or sci-fi apocalypse. A potato is a potato is a potato, except a potato is fries, or mashed, or twice baked, or hash browns, or... well you know, somewhere in all those choices a good many people are able to find something to like about a potato.

BTW I'm eagerly anticipating Season 2 of The Vinland Saga. Anyone else?

I read that production started last summer. Season 1 was only available on Amazon Prime which we don't have anymore but may have to re-subscribe!

There is a lot of anime that is not appropriate for children. I'm in my 50s and I enjoy it. There are some that go off the rails. Often it seems like the artist went on some acid trip before finishing it, but for many, the crazy, wild endings are part of the draw.

Just finished Season 1 of Sword Art Online. Apparently done in 2019, but with the popularity of the Metaverse growing, it takes on potential dangers of AR/VR. Also tackles love, friendship, tribulations, inner strength, etc.

Too each his own. I don't like Horror films.

cd :O)

What you did was the equivalent of watching 1 episode of a sitcom that you didn't like (say 2 and 1/2 men which I thought was dumb) and as a result are writing off Cheers, Seinfeld, Big Bang Theory etc. because you don't like "sitcoms".

Great opportunity to find something that BOTH of you can enjoy and bond over.

If you want to watch a masterpiece of Anime, rent Spirited Away. It's sorta like Alice in Wonderland and has a lot of subtle plot stuff going on. It's on the IMDB top 100 movies of all time list. Yeah, that's right top 100 of ALL types of movies.
this is a good point becuz i was kinda' bored with spirited away. and i dont like sitcoms (except for the simpsons) becuz they are sassy and unrealistic.

particularly with many (most ?) women, what confuses me is that they see watching anime as childish but then watch reality shows (real housewives of miami, real housewives of l.a., basketball wives, rap-star wives, real housewives of new jersey, jersey shore, jerseyliscous, jersey cuoture ) which are much more make believe and slack ?

i think broadway plays are silly (they talk normally for 5 minutes then spontaneously bust into synchronized song with choreographed dance moves -- how is that anywhere close to real life ?). but it is thought of as adult high-brow culture so we cant criticize it.

i think its conceited to say that liking the matrix is acceptable; yet, liking ghost in the shell is childish. or that watching cowboy bebop (2021) is o.k.; but, watching the original is suspect.

anime generally appeals to those who like visual artistry and imaginative fantasy; i guess: dont yuck somebody elses yum.

Lol...you've barely watched any, you really don't even have the slightest idea of what you're talking about.

Here is some "kids" anime for you:

Similar to your observation of women and reality shows, I find it amusing that many (often men) who think musicals are unrealistic because people don't spontaneously bust into song and dace have no problems with intergalactic battles and legions of superheros, which to me is far more unrealistic than people busting into song and dance.

Yeah, I've always been a live and let live kind of person towards others music and other entertainment likes or dislikes.

Probably because I grew up in a small town and we had a bunch of uptight church ladies trying to play rock records backwards to warn us about satans music....or fast forward to today and the same personality types more commonly known as "The Karen" feel like it's junior high all over again and they'll be deciding what is acceptable to be one of the cool kids lol.
