It's the something if not formal training. There is this show on Bravo - that features interviews with actors.
At some point they do get training - to make them better. Haven't heard a one yet say they didn't and won't get the training. Even those who didn't get formal education still sought out training.
According to her American Express commercial Gweneth Paltrow had no formal training. Although she did come from a show biz family. Her mom was Blythe Danner and her father was a producer [i think].
I think there are very few actors without some form of training. Rarely are there actors gifted enough to act WELL.
Look at Keanu Reeves, Ashley Judd, and Sandra Bullock--terrible actors who may or may not have had training, but they are just bad. Meryl Streep, Daniel Day Lewis: natural born talent, training or not. I don't think you can train acting as good as each of those.
Probably a lot of the younger ones that have come on the scene in the last few years. Some people have it and some just don't. Many of the older ones are just better and have achieved more greatness and are more talented. It's not like the younger ones can't try, either. And this is coming from a Gen-Xer.
I don't remember ever reading that Johnny Depp ever had professional training either.
I agree with jjbradleynyc.....some people have it and some people don't. I guess it is like trying to train someone to be a salesman who just isn't born with the right personality.
