I have a very specific question and have been unable to come up with the answer. I write parodies ala Weird Al Yankovic and am about to shoot my first video in Los Angeles within the next month. I've been going over the storyboard for the video with my director and we have a few slight concerns. In my song, I name a few specific brands and planned on showing them in the video. My question is: is this legal, or could we get in trouble? Do we need permission to use the brands? I was watching Weird Al's White and Nerdy video and he mentions and shows GAP, X-Men, to name a few. All help would be appreciated. Thanks

Not sure what the answer is but I would hit Copyrights & Trademarks and post in there if you get no response. My guess is they will tell you to just rename your brands to something similar to avoid lawsuits.

Oh, okay thank you. I can't really rename the brands since they're part of the lyrics.
